Hikvision DS-7608NI-M2/8P - 8 Channel 8 PoE 8K NVR

The Hikvision DS-7608NI-M2/8P is an 8-channel Ultra Series network video recorder with eight built-in PoE ports, 128 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and support for cameras up to 32 MP.

Who is it for?

Installations of up to eight IP cameras where the recorder also powers them. The eight PoE ports mean one Cat6 run per camera carries both data and power — no separate injectors, no fused spurs at height, and the whole system sits behind one UPS if you want it to stay up in a power cut.

The 128 Mbps incoming bandwidth is what separates this from the older I-series it replaces, which managed 80 Mbps. That headroom is what lets you run eight high-resolution cameras at full frame rate without the recorder throttling them — the usual reason a system that looked fine on paper produces stuttering footage of the incident you actually needed.

What you'll need with it

• Hard drives — none are supplied. Use surveillance-rated drives (WD Purple or Toshiba S300); desktop drives are not built for continuous write and fail early. Our CCTV storage calculator will size them for your camera count and retention period.
• Cameras within the PoE budget. 120 W across eight ports is ample for standard cameras, but PTZs, heaters and illuminators draw more — tell us your camera models and we will check the total.
• Cat6 to each camera, and a screen with HDMI input if you want local viewing.

Frequently asked questions

Does it come with hard drives?

No. It takes two SATA drives up to 16 TB each, supplied separately.

Will it work with my existing cameras?

It supports Hikvision cameras and ONVIF third-party cameras. Send us your models and we will confirm before you order.

How does it differ from the DS-7608NI-I2/8P it replaces?

Higher incoming bandwidth (128 Mbps against 80), support for cameras up to 32 MP rather than 12 MP, and 8K rather than 4K HDMI output.

Do I need eight cameras to use it?

No — it is a sensible choice for four or six cameras if you expect to expand, since adding a camera later means plugging it in rather than replacing the recorder.
