CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount (PhOD) Jeweller is a wireless outdoor detector for Ajax alarms that covers a narrow, tall band of space instead of a wide area. That suits a run of windows, a side passage or a boundary line, where a wide detector would also see the street or next door. It is fitted high, between 2 and 4 m, and pairs two PIR sensors with a K-band microwave sensor, with Ajax SmartDetect processing the signals to help cut false alarms. A camera with infrared lighting takes a short series of photos when it triggers, and they reach the Ajax app over the separate Wings radio channel, so you can check what happened before acting. It comes in white, with a swivel mount and a hood in the box.

Ajax Jeweller hubs that handle photo verification over Wings, for example Hub 2 (2G) Jeweller, Hub 2 (4G) Jeweller and Hub 2 Plus Jeweller, and the ReX 2 Jeweller range extender. Keep the hub firmware up to date when adding newer detectors.

Common questions

Where would I use a curtain detector?

Its main zone is only 7° wide, so it watches a thin, tall slice of space. That makes it a good fit for a line of windows, a side passage, a fence or a driveway edge, where a wide-angle detector would also pick up passers-by.

How high should it be fitted?

Ajax recommends 2 to 4 m. The swivel mount supplied lets you aim the zone after the bracket is fixed, and the hood shields the front from the weather.

Will animals set it off?

This model has no pet immunity setting, so aim the zone away from places where pets or wildlife move about.

Can I see what set it off?

Yes. Its camera takes 1 to 5 photos at 320 × 240 px, or 1 to 3 at 640 × 480 px, with IR lighting for the dark. They arrive in the Ajax app in up to 9 s at the default resolution. You can also take photos on demand, on a schedule or from a scenario.

Does it need a mains supply?

No. It runs on the six CR123A batteries fitted in it, for up to 3 years by Ajax's figures. An optional 12-24 V DC external supply can be used instead.

Is it suitable for a graded system?

It is certified to Security Grade 2 with environmental class IV, the outdoor class, and is listed against PD 6662:2017.
