EN54 FireProtect (Heat/Sounder) Jeweller is a battery-powered point heat detector for Ajax EN54 wireless fire alarms, with a fire alarm sounder built into the same housing. Two thermistors track the temperature, and the detector can be set to any of the A1, B or C heat classes, with rate-of-rise or static response, or to a fixed temperature. That makes it a fit for rooms where smoke detection would cause nuisance alarms. When it detects a fire, the built-in sounder plays one of 32 tones, in time with every other sounder on the same EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller, so it also adds an alarm sounder to the room without a separate device. It joins the system over the Jeweller radio, so there is no cable to run. Choose black or white above.

Common questions

When is a heat detector used instead of a smoke detector?

Heat detection responds to temperature, so it is often chosen for kitchens, plant rooms and other areas where steam, dust or fumes could set off a smoke detector. The system designer decides which rooms need which type.

What do the heat classes mean?

A1, B and C set the temperature range the detector works at. The R versions also react to a fast rise in temperature, and the S versions respond only to the set temperature. There is also a fixed-temperature mode.

How loud is the built-in sounder?

Between 66 and 89 dB at 1 m, depending on which of the 32 tones is used and the level set. It sounds in time with the other sounders on the same fire hub.

How long do the batteries last?

Ajax calculates up to 5 years on the two CR123A batteries supplied. They are already fitted and can be changed without tools.

Can it be fitted outside or in a bathroom?

Ajax rates it for indoor use only, at 0 °C to +50 °C and humidity up to 80% (IP21C).

Who should design the system?

In the UK a commercial fire alarm is normally designed, installed and commissioned to BS 5839-1 by a competent fire alarm installer. We supply the equipment; we do not install it.
