FireProtect 2 AC (CO) Jeweller is a carbon monoxide alarm for homes and rented property that is wired to the mains and joins an Ajax wireless system. Its chemical sensor keeps track of how much CO has built up over time and raises the alarm once the dose passes fixed limits. The alarm then sounds on the unit itself at 85 dB and goes to the Ajax hub, so the people on the system hear about it on their phones even when nobody is at home. A lithium backup cell inside keeps it working through a power cut. It reports to the hub over Jeweller radio at up to 1,500 m in open space. Supplied in white.

Common questions

When does it go off?

It works on the CO dose rather than a single reading. It sounds within 90 minutes if CO stays above 50 ppm, within 40 minutes above 100 ppm, and within 3 minutes above 300 ppm.

Does it detect smoke or heat?

No. This version senses carbon monoxide only. FireProtect 2 AC (Heat/Smoke/CO) Jeweller adds smoke and heat sensors in the same size of housing.

What happens in a power cut?

It runs from 110-240 V mains, and a built-in CR-2/3AZ lithium cell takes over if the supply fails. The cell is not replaceable.

How long does the CO sensor last?

Ajax gives the CO sensor a service life of 10 years.

Where can it be fitted?

Indoors only, between 0 °C and +50 °C with humidity up to 80%, and within reach of a mains supply. The SmartBracket lets you adjust its position after fitting.

Can I use it in a rented property?

It carries the BSI Kitemark for carbon monoxide alarms (KM 797661) and is listed against BS EN 50291-1:2018. How many alarms a property needs, and where they go, depends on its layout, its fuel-burning appliances and the rules for that part of the UK, so check the current guidance and BS 5839-6 before fitting.
