FireProtect 2 RB (Heat/Smoke/CO) Jeweller is a battery-powered alarm with three sensors in one housing: optical smoke, heat and carbon monoxide. It needs no mains wiring, as it runs on two replaceable CR123A batteries that come fitted, so it can go up in a room where there is no supply to hand. When it detects a problem it sounds its own 85 dB sounder and reports to the Ajax hub over Jeweller radio at up to 1,700 m in open space, so the alarm reaches the Ajax apps too. Other Ajax fire detectors on the same system can sound with it. Choose white or black above.

Ajax hubs that use Jeweller radio, such as Hub 2 (2G) Jeweller, and the Ajax apps for set-up and alerts. Other Ajax FireProtect 2 detectors on the same system can sound together when one of them raises a fire alarm.

Common questions

What do RB and SB mean?

RB versions take replaceable batteries: this one runs on two CR123A cells, fitted in the box. SB versions have sealed batteries that are not replaced.

Does it need wiring?

No. It runs on its own batteries and talks to the Ajax hub by radio, so it suits rooms with no mains supply nearby.

What does it detect?

Smoke through a dual-spectrum optical sensor, heat above 64 °C or a rise of more than 10 °C within a minute, and carbon monoxide by accumulated dose.

Will steam set it off?

Ajax states that the smoke sensor does not react to water vapour. As with any smoke alarm, choose its position with care.

How do I test it?

Press the button on the front to start a smoke chamber test. The same button silences the sounder during an alarm or fault.

Can I use it in a rented property?

It is listed against EN 14604:2005/AC:2008 for smoke and EN 50291-1:2018 for CO. Ajax does not list a BSI Kitemark or a BS 5839-6 grade for this RB version. How many alarms a property needs, and where they go, depends on its layout, its fuel-burning appliances and the rules for that part of the UK, so check the current guidance and BS 5839-6 before fitting.
