Ajax FireProtect 2 RB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller Smoke and Heat Alarm Black (52251)

Ajax FireProtect 2 RB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller - Battery Smoke and Heat Alarm

FireProtect 2 RB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller is a battery-powered smoke and heat alarm from the Ajax Residence Line. RB stands for replaceable batteries: it runs on two CR123A cells that come fitted, so there is no mains wiring to do. Smoke is picked up by a dual-spectrum optical sensor that does not react to water vapour, housed in a chamber that keeps dust, dirt and insects out. The heat sensor raises the alarm above 64 °C or if the temperature climbs by more than 10 °C within a minute. It sounds its own 85 dB siren, and on an Ajax hub the other linked fire detectors sound too. This listing is the black version.

Also listed as 52251 (black). Ajax model ID FP2.RBHS.J.

Key features

• Two CR123A batteries, pre-installed and replaceable, so no mains wiring is needed.
• Dual-spectrum optical smoke sensor that ignores water vapour, in a patented chamber that keeps out dust, dirt and insects.
• Heat sensing to the Class A1R heat detector requirements: alarm above 64 °C, or on a rise of more than 10 °C in a minute or less.
• Siren rated at 85 dB at 3 m, plus a green, yellow and red LED for power, faults and fire alarms.
• Interconnected alarms: paired with an Ajax hub, a fire found by one detector sets off the others.
• Jeweller radio range up to 1,700 m in open space, encrypted, with frequency hopping and device authentication.

Technical specification

Works with

An Ajax hub or range extender that uses the Jeweller radio, for example Hub 2 (2G) Jeweller or Hub 2 Plus Jeweller. Other Ajax fire detectors on the same system, such as FireProtect 2 smoke, heat and CO alarms, join its interconnected alarm.

Common questions

What is the difference between RB and SB?

RB models take two replaceable CR123A batteries. The SB version, FireProtect 2 SB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller, has two sealed lithium batteries that are not replaced.

Will steam set it off?

Ajax says its dual-spectrum optical smoke sensor does not react to water vapour.

When does the heat sensor raise the alarm?

Above 64 °C, or when the temperature rises by more than 10 °C in a minute or less.

How do I test it or stop it sounding?

Press the button on the front. In normal use it starts a smoke chamber test; during an alarm or a fault it turns off the detector sound.

Will I know if it stops talking to the hub?

Yes. The system flags a loss of communication within 15 minutes, and a tamper alarm is sent if the alarm is pulled off the surface or its mounting panel.

Where can it be fitted?

Indoors only. Ajax rates it IP20, for 0 °C to +50 °C and humidity up to 80%.
