Ajax FireProtect 2 SB (Heat) Jeweller - Sealed Battery Wireless Heat Alarm

FireProtect 2 SB (Heat) Jeweller is a heat alarm with sealed batteries for homes and rented property. It reacts to temperature only, not smoke, which is why heat alarms are often chosen for kitchens, where cooking fumes could set off a smoke alarm. It raises the alarm above 64 °C, or sooner if the temperature jumps by more than 10 °C within a minute. It sounds its own 85 dB sounder and reports to the Ajax hub over Jeweller radio at up to 1,700 m in open space, and other Ajax fire detectors on the system can sound with it. Its two lithium batteries are sealed in, so there are no cells to change and no wiring. Supplied in white.

Common questions

Where is a heat alarm used?

It responds to temperature only, so it is often chosen for kitchens, where cooking fumes could trouble a smoke alarm. It does not detect smoke or carbon monoxide.

When does it go off?

When the temperature passes 64 °C, or when it rises by more than 10 °C in 1 minute or less, as set out for Class A1R heat detectors.

What does SB mean?

SB stands for sealed batteries. It runs on 2 lithium batteries that are not replaced. The RB versions take replaceable batteries instead.

How do I test it?

Press the button on the front to run a detector test. The same button silences the sounder during an alarm or fault.

Can it be fitted in a loft or outbuilding?

Ajax rates it for indoor use only (IP20), at 0 °C to +50 °C and humidity up to 80%, so choose a dry indoor spot that stays within that range.

Can I use it in a rented property?

It is a BS 5446-2:2003 heat alarm with BSI Kitemark KM 797644, and Ajax lists it as BS 5839-6 Grade F1. How many alarms a property needs, and where they go, depends on its layout, its fuel-burning appliances and the rules for that part of the UK, so check the current guidance and BS 5839-6 before fitting.
