Ajax FireProtect 2 SB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller Wireless Smoke and Heat Alarm Black (52255)

Ajax FireProtect 2 SB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller - Sealed Battery Wireless Smoke and Heat Alarm

FireProtect 2 SB (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller is a smoke and heat alarm with sealed batteries, for homes and rented property. Its optical smoke sensor looks for smoke, and a heat sensor raises the alarm above 64 °C or when the temperature jumps by more than 10 °C within a minute. When either is triggered it sounds its own 85 dB sounder and reports to the Ajax hub over Jeweller radio at up to 1,700 m in open space, so the alarm also reaches the Ajax apps. Other Ajax fire detectors on the system can sound with it. The two lithium batteries are sealed in, so there are no cells to change and no mains wiring. Supplied in black.

Also listed as 52255 (black). Ajax model ID FP2.SBHS.J.

Technical specification

Works with

Ajax hubs that use Jeweller radio, such as Hub 2 (2G) Jeweller, and the Ajax apps for set-up and alerts. Other Ajax FireProtect 2 detectors on the same system can sound together when one of them raises a fire alarm. For a kitchen, where smoke sensing can be a problem, see FireProtect 2 SB (Heat) Jeweller.

Common questions

What does it detect?

Smoke, through a dual-spectrum optical sensor, and heat, either above 64 °C or as a rise of more than 10 °C in 1 minute or less. It does not detect carbon monoxide.

What does SB mean?

SB stands for sealed batteries. It runs on 2 lithium batteries that are not replaced. The RB versions take replaceable batteries instead.

Will steam set it off?

Ajax states that the smoke sensor does not react to water vapour. As with any smoke alarm, choose its position with care.

How do I test it?

Press the button on the front to start a smoke chamber test. The same button silences the sounder during an alarm or fault.

Is it available in white?

Ajax makes this model in white and black. This listing is the black version (52255).

Can I use it in a rented property?

It is listed against BS EN 14604:2005 for smoke alarms and carries BSI Kitemarks KM 797639 and KM 797644. How many alarms a property needs, and where they go, depends on its layout, its fuel-burning appliances and the rules for that part of the UK, so check the current guidance and BS 5839-6 before fitting.
