Hikvision DS-2CD2386G2H-IS2U/SL — 8 MP AcuSense turret that warns intruders off

The DS-2CD2386G2H-IS2U/SL is an 8 MP (4K) fixed turret camera from Hikvision's G2H AcuSense range. What separates it from an ordinary 8 MP turret is what happens when something is detected: the camera fires a white strobe light and an audible warning through its own built-in speaker, on site, at the moment of the event — rather than only writing a clip to a recorder for someone to review later.

Detection is handled by AcuSense deep-learning classification, so the camera separates people and vehicles from the everyday causes of false alarms — foliage, rain, shadows, animals. Line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting can all be set to trigger only on a human or a vehicle target.

Why this camera rather than the standard 2386G2H-IU

• Strobe and audible warning built in — no separate deterrent device, no extra cabling.
• Two-way audio — two built-in microphones plus a speaker rated at 105 dB sound pressure at 10 cm, so an operator can speak to site live through iVMS-4200 or Hik-Connect.
• Alarm and audio interfaces — 1 audio in, 1 audio out, 1 alarm in, 1 alarm out (24 VDC/24 VAC, 1 A) for integrating existing detectors or sounders.

A note on the /SL and /SRB variants

Hikvision publishes one datasheet covering both this camera and its /SRB sibling, and the two differ in one line: the /SL fits a white light, while the /SRB fits a red-and-blue flashing light. If you need the red/blue police-style strobe, this is not that model. Everything else — sensor, lens, analytics, audio — is identical.

Lens, coverage and DORI

This SKU is the 2.8 mm fixed-lens version: horizontal FOV 105°, vertical 56°, diagonal 130°, depth of field from 3.3 m. Hikvision's published DORI figures at 2.8 mm are detect 89 m, observe 35 m, recognise 17 m, identify 8 m. Those numbers are the honest guide to camera placement — if you need to identify a face rather than simply see that someone is there, the subject has to be inside roughly 8 m of this lens. A 4 mm version of the same camera is available and stretches identification to about 10 m across a narrower 90° view.

Recording, storage and network

• H.265+/H.265/H.264+/H.264, 32 Kbps to 16 Mbps
• Built-in microSD/SDHC/SDXC slot to 512 GB, plus NAS (NFS, SMB/CIFS) and ANR so footage recorded during a network outage is backfilled to the recorder afterwards
• ONVIF Profile S/T/G, ISAPI, SDK and ISUP; up to 6 simultaneous live view channels
• Worth knowing: the Ethernet port is 10/100 self-adaptive, not gigabit. At a 16 Mbps ceiling that is ample for this camera, but it does mean the port is not a gigabit uplink for anything else.

• PoE IEEE 802.3at Class 4, max. 18 W — note this is at, not af; the strobe and speaker push it past what an af port supplies. Check your switch or NVR port budget before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Does the siren and strobe work without a recorder?

Yes. The camera's own event rules drive the strobe light and audible warning, so it will deter on a standalone install. A recorder is only needed for centralised recording and review.

Can I change what the siren says?

Custom audio warnings can be uploaded through the camera's web interface, alongside the default warning tones.

Is this a ColorVu camera?

No. This is an AcuSense camera with infrared night vision — images go to black and white in darkness. If you want full colour at night, the ColorVu or Smart Hybrid Light models are the ones to look at.

Will it work on a third-party NVR?

It supports ONVIF Profile S, T and G, so it will record on most ONVIF recorders. The AcuSense classification, strobe and audio features are best supported on Hikvision recorders.
