Hikvision DS-7316HTHI-K4 - 16 Channel 8MP 4K Turbo HD DVR

The Hikvision DS-7316HTHI-K4 is a 16-channel 8MP Turbo HD DVR in a 1.5U chassis, with four drive bays, RAID support and 4K output. It is the top of the coax-based recorder range — and the reason to buy it is that it reaches 8MP over cable you may already have in the walls.

8MP over existing coax

Most DVRs stop at 4MP or 5MP. This one encodes at 8MP, which is the same resolution as a 4K IP camera, delivered over coaxial cable. If a building already has RG59 run to every camera position, this is the cheapest route to 4K-class footage — no new cabling, no switches, no network design.

Transmission distance is the other coax advantage: up to 800m at 1080p and 1,200m at 720p. No IP camera will run that far without a switch in between.

Five signal types on any channel

Each BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI, CVBS and IP. In practice that means it will record whatever is already on site — including old analogue cameras — and let you replace them with HD models one at a time rather than all at once.

On top of the 16 coax channels it accepts up to 32 IP cameras at 8MP, so a site can grow onto the network without replacing the recorder.

RAID — unusual on a DVR

Four bays taking up to 10TB each, with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 6 and hot-swappable disks. RAID is rare at this level and matters wherever footage is evidence: a failed disk becomes a maintenance job rather than lost recordings.

POS integration, if you run a till

It overlays transaction data onto the recording and can trigger recording from the till. Searching for a specific transaction and seeing exactly what happened at the counter is far quicker than scrubbing through footage by time, and it is the main reason retailers choose this range.

What you'll need with it

• Hard drives — none are supplied. Four bays at up to 10TB. At 8MP the storage adds up quickly, so size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use surveillance-rated drives.
• 8MP-capable cameras. The recorder will happily record your existing 1080p cameras, but the 8MP capability is wasted without cameras to match.
• 1.5U of rack space, or a shelf with airflow.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my existing coax cable?

Yes — that is the point of this recorder. HD-TVI runs over the same RG59 as older analogue systems, so in most cases you change the recorder and cameras and keep the cable.

Will it record my old analogue cameras?

Yes. Each channel self-adapts to CVBS as well as HD-TVI, AHD and CVI, so you can mix old and new and upgrade gradually.

Does it have AcuSense?

No. This is a K-series recorder, so it does not filter alerts to people and vehicles. If that matters, ask us about the current M-series AcuSense DVRs, which classify targets and cut false alarms sharply.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Four SATA drives up to 10TB each, supplied separately.

What is the difference between HQHI, HUHI and HTHI?

They are resolution tiers: HQHI records up to 4MP, HUHI up to 5MP, and HTHI — this one — up to 8MP.
