The Hikvision DS-7604NXI-K1/4P(D) is a 4-channel AcuSense network video recorder with four built-in PoE ports, 4K output and on-device facial recognition and perimeter protection.

Who is it for?

Small systems — a house, a shop, a small unit — where four cameras is the whole job and the recorder powers them all. The four PoE ports mean one cable per camera carrying data and power, so there is nothing to wire at height and the whole system runs off one plug.

The reason to choose this over a plain K-series recorder is AcuSense. It analyses on the device rather than relying on the camera, so it can tell a person or a vehicle from a moving branch or a cat. That is the difference between a system you check when it alerts you and one whose notifications you learn to ignore — which is how most small installations end up going unwatched.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One SATA bay, up to 16 TB. Use a surveillance-rated drive such as WD Purple; a desktop drive is not built for continuous writing and will fail early. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator.
• Cameras within the 50 W PoE budget. Ample for four standard cameras; PTZs, heaters and illuminators draw more, so tell us your models and we will check the total.
• Cat6 to each camera, and a screen with HDMI or VGA for local viewing.

Frequently asked questions

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. It takes one SATA drive up to 16 TB, supplied separately.

What does AcuSense actually do?

It classifies what triggered the alarm — person, vehicle, or neither — on the recorder itself. Far fewer false alerts from rain, foliage and animals, and you can search recordings by target type rather than scrubbing through hours of footage.

Will it work with my existing cameras?

It supports Hikvision cameras and ONVIF profile S/G third-party cameras. Note that AcuSense analytics run best with compatible cameras — send us your models and we will confirm what you would get.

Can I expand beyond four cameras?

No, four is the limit. If there is any chance of adding a fifth, the 8-channel version is the cheaper decision now.
