The Hikvision DS-7608NI-K1/8P/4G(C) is an 8-channel network video recorder with eight built-in PoE ports and a built-in 4G mobile network connection — so the system can be viewed remotely from a site with no broadband.
Who is it for?
Sites where there is no fixed line and never will be: construction compounds, temporary yards, agricultural buildings, remote car parks, plant and equipment stores. Put a SIM in the recorder and the cameras can be monitored from a phone without waiting weeks for a broadband installation that may never be worth doing.
It is also the answer where a line exists but you do not want CCTV on it — a tenant's network, a shared building, or a site where the IT department will not allow cameras on the corporate LAN.
Data usage is the thing to plan for
4G data costs money, and CCTV can consume a great deal of it. Hikvision has built the tools in to manage that: network keep-alive, data monitoring, real-time usage display and data usage notifications, so you can watch consumption and be warned before a bill surprises you.
In practice the recorder still records everything locally to its own disk — the 4G link carries live view and playback when you connect, not a constant upload. Set the mobile app to a lower substream and a month's remote checking costs very little. Talk to us about sizing a data plan if you have not run a 4G system before.

What you'll need with it
- A data SIM. Choose a plan with enough allowance for the way you will use it — we can advise if you tell us how often the site gets checked.
- A hard drive — none is supplied. Use a surveillance-rated drive such as WD Purple. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator.
- Reasonable signal at the recorder position. If the building is steel-clad or the recorder sits in a basement, an external antenna may be needed — check the signal before installation day.
Frequently asked questions
Does it need broadband as well?
No. That is the point of it — the 4G connection replaces a fixed line for remote viewing.
Will it use a lot of data?
Only when you connect. Recording happens locally to the disk; the mobile link carries live view and playback on demand. Using the app's substream keeps consumption modest.
Does it come with a hard drive or a SIM?
Neither. Both are supplied separately.
Is this the same as the standard DS-7608NI-K1/8P?
Same 8-channel recorder with eight PoE ports; this version adds the 4G modem.
This is a regional model — will you have stock?
Ask us. 4G recorders are not stocked in the same depth as the mainstream range, so it is worth checking availability and lead time before committing to a site date.
