Hikvision DS-9664NXI-I8R/VPro - 64 Channel 8 Bay AcuSeek NVR with Redundant PSU

The Hikvision DS-9664NXI-I8R/VPro is a 64-channel VPro network video recorder with AcuSeek AI video search, eight hot-swap SATA bays, RAID and a redundant power supply.

Read this first — RAID and the AI cannot run at the same time

Hikvision's specification states plainly that the RAID function and the AI functions cannot be enabled simultaneously. This recorder gives you a choice, not both:

• RAID mode — eight hot-swap disks in an array that survives a drive failure, but with AcuSeek, AcuSearch and facial recognition switched off.
• AI mode — AcuSeek, AcuSearch, face recognition and ANPR running, with the disks as independent volumes.

Neither is wrong, but the decision has to be made before purchase, not after. If the footage is evidence and disk failure is the risk you are managing, choose RAID and buy the analytics elsewhere in the range. If searching footage quickly is the point, run it in AI mode and accept independent disks.

We would rather tell you now than have it discovered during commissioning. If you need both together, the DeepinMind iDS-9664NXI-M8/X runs RAID and its analytics at the same time.

What it does in AI mode

Two engines — one for face pictures and AcuSearch, a second dedicated to AcuSeek, which lets you describe what you are looking for in plain English and returns matching clips. Up to 300,000 targets a day with AcuSense cameras, 50,000 face pictures across 16 libraries, plus ANPR (UK and Ireland supported), people counting, heat mapping and video structuralisation.

Bandwidth and build

384 Mbps incoming, 256 Mbps outgoing. The outgoing figure is the lower of the two, so it is what limits you when several people review footage remotely while sixty-four cameras keep recording.

The chassis has a redundant power supply — the R in the model number — so a failed PSU does not stop the recorder, and eight hot-swap bays at up to 20 TB.

What you'll need with it

• A decision on RAID or AI — see above. Talk to us before ordering if you are unsure which matters more on the site.
• AcuSense cameras if you intend to use AcuSeek. Without them the AI has little to work with.

What does the R mean?

Redundant power supply — two PSUs, so a single failure does not stop the recorder.

Does it power my cameras?

No. There is no PoE; use switches.
