Hikvision iDS-7204HTHI-M1/PXT - 4 Channel 8MP AcuSense PoC DVR

The Hikvision iDS-7204HTHI-M1/PXT is a 4-channel 8MP AcuSense DVR that does two things at once over a single coaxial cable: it powers the camera and it carries the audio.

One cable per camera — and no separate microphone run

PoC sends power to the camera down the same coax as the video, so each position needs one cable instead of two. No PSU box, no mains spur at height, no second cable to pull. On a retrofit where the coax is sound but the power runs are tired, that often turns a rewire into a swap.

AoC — Audio over Coax — is the less well-known half, and it is genuinely useful. Audio travels on the same cable too, so recording sound at a till, a counter or a reception desk needs no separate microphone cable. Very few 4-channel recorders do both.

True 8MP, on all four channels

This is the HTHI tier, and the distinction matters. HUHI recorders are marketed as handling 8MP but record full 8MP on channel one only — the rest fall back to 8MP Lite. HTHI records 8MP on every channel, with a 16 Mbps bitrate ceiling to carry it.

On a four-camera system where all four views matter equally — a house, a forecourt, a small yard — that is the difference between one good recording and four.

AcuSense does the filtering in the recorder

Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the DVR, not the cameras, so your existing analogue cameras gain people-and-vehicle classification without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object type rather than scrubbing through by time.

It also supports perimeter protection — line crossing and intrusion detection — plus face detection, region entry and exit, unattended baggage and object removal, subject to camera compatibility.

Worth knowing before you order

PoC needs Hikvision PoC cameras. Ordinary HD-TVI cameras will record perfectly well on this DVR, but they will still need their own 12V supply — the power only travels to cameras built for it. The same applies to AoC.

Hikvision's own product page for this model shows an incorrect heading describing it as an 8-channel 5MP recorder. It is a 4-channel 8MP unit; the specification above reflects the actual product. If you need the published datasheet before ordering, ask and we will supply it.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 10TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
• PoC cameras to use the power-over-coax feature, and PoC or AoC cameras for audio.
• Existing coax is fine — RG59 carries video, power and audio together.

Frequently asked questions

What does PoC actually save me?

One cable run per camera. The recorder powers the camera through the coax, so there is no separate power cable, no PSU box and no mains spur at the camera position.

What is AoC?

Audio over Coax — sound travels on the same cable as the video, so you can record audio without running a separate microphone cable.

How is HTHI different from HUHI?

Resolution. HUHI records full 8MP on channel one only and 8MP Lite elsewhere; HTHI records 8MP on every channel. On a four-camera system that is a real difference.

Will it work with my existing cameras?

Yes for video — it self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, CVI and CVBS. PoC and AoC need cameras that support them.

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. One SATA drive up to 10TB, supplied separately.

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes, through Hik-Connect on iOS or Android, with motion notifications.
