Hikvision iDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT - 8 Channel AcuSense DVR

The Hikvision iDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT is an 8-channel AcuSense DVR — the common size for a shop, pub, workshop or house, and the cheapest route to people-and-vehicle filtering on an existing coax system.

The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras

This is the point most people miss. Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the recorder, so your existing analogue cameras gain people and vehicle classification without being replaced. On an IP system you would have to buy AcuSense cameras to get the same result.

It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type instead of scrubbing through by time.

Read this before you buy: the three AI modes are mutually exclusive

Hikvision's specification is explicit, and no competitor mentions it. Face picture comparison, Motion Detection 2.0 and perimeter protection cannot be enabled at the same time — turning one on makes the other two unavailable.

So you choose one of:

• Motion Detection 2.0 — people and vehicle classification across all analogue channels (the default, and the right choice for most sites)
• Perimeter protection — up to 4 channels of line crossing and intrusion detection
• Face picture comparison — 2 channels, against up to 16 face libraries

Five signal types, and room to grow

Every BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS, so it records whatever is already installed — including old analogue cameras — and lets you upgrade a camera at a time. On top of the eight coax channels it takes 4 IP cameras as standard, expandable to 12, at up to 6MP.

One limit worth knowing

The display output is 1080p, not 4K, and the network port is 10/100 rather than gigabit. The 16-channel iDS-7216HQHI-M1/XT adds both. On an eight-camera system neither is usually a problem, but they are the reasons to step up.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 10TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
• Camera power — this model does not power cameras over the coax. If you want that, ask about the PoC (/PXT) versions.

Frequently asked questions

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.

Can I run face recognition and people detection together?

No — Hikvision states the three AI modes are mutually exclusive on this model. Pick the one that matters for your site, or step up to a larger recorder.

Can I use my existing coax cable?

Yes. HD-TVI runs on the same RG59 as older analogue systems, so upgrading is usually a recorder-and-camera swap.

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. One SATA drive up to 10TB, supplied separately.

What does HQHI mean?

It is the resolution tier: HQHI records up to 3K / 5MP Lite, HUHI reaches full 5MP, and HTHI goes to 8MP.
