Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/S(C) - 8 Channel AcuSense DVR

The Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/S(C) is an 8-channel AcuSense DVR — a compact, low-power recorder that nonetheless drives a 4K display and carries a gigabit network port.

The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras

Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the recorder and is enabled by default on every analogue channel, so your existing analogue cameras gain people and vehicle classification without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type rather than scrubbing through by time.

It also supports up to 4 channels of perimeter protection, plus face picture detection and search.

Enhanced IP mode — two ways to configure it

This model gives you a choice that most in the range do not:

• Standard: 4 IP cameras (expandable to 12) at up to 8MP each
• Enhanced IP mode: 8 IP cameras (expandable to 16), each capped at 4 Mbps

In short: fewer cameras at higher resolution, or twice as many at a tighter bitrate. Worth deciding before you commit, since it changes how many cameras the recorder will carry — ask us if you are unsure which suits your site.

It records 8MP cameras

Despite sitting in the 5MP tier it accepts 8MP HD-TVI and HDCVI cameras, recording 8MP at 8 fps or 8MP Lite at 15 fps, with 5MP and 3K at 12 fps. Every BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS, so it records whatever is already installed and lets you upgrade a camera at a time.

Two limits worth knowing

No alarm inputs or outputs. Hikvision lists these as not available on this model. If you need to trigger from or to an alarm panel, choose the /XT or PoC versions instead, which have them.

One audio input. Some models in this range take four or eight; this takes one. Fine for a single till or counter, not for recording audio across several positions.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 10TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
• Camera power — it does not power cameras over the coax. Ask about the PoC models if you want that.

Frequently asked questions

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.

What is Enhanced IP mode?

A configuration choice: standard mode gives fewer IP channels at up to 8MP, Enhanced mode doubles the channel count with a 4 Mbps cap on each. You pick one.

Does it have alarm inputs?

No — this model has none. The /XT and PoC versions do.

Can I connect a 4K monitor?

Yes, HDMI runs at 4K 30Hz with VGA simultaneously at 1080p.

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. One SATA drive up to 10TB, supplied separately.
