The Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/X is an 8-channel 5MP AcuSense DVR — and it is a noticeably more capable machine than its price suggests, carrying 4K output, gigabit networking and 256 Mbps of bandwidth that the 4-channel models in the same range do not have.
People and vehicle classification runs on the recorder, so your existing analogue cameras gain it without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type rather than by time.
Analytics capacity is generous for an eight-channel machine: up to 8 channels of advanced perimeter protection, 4-channel face capture and 4-channel face picture comparison against up to 16 libraries — twice what the 4-channel HUHI models manage.
If you use face comparison in earnest, this matters: the face picture library is backed up to both the hard drive and internal flash, so a failed disk does not wipe it. Rebuilding a face library by hand is a miserable job, and most recorders at this price offer no such protection.
Despite being a 5MP-tier recorder it accepts 8MP HD-TVI and HDCVI cameras, recording 8MP at 8 fps or 8MP Lite at 15 fps, with 5MP and 3K at 12 fps. Every BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS, so it records whatever is already installed and lets you upgrade a camera at a time.
One drive bay. Eight cameras at 5MP fill a disk faster than most people expect. Up to 12TB helps, but if you need months of retention rather than weeks, look at a two-bay model.
The IP channels are rated in bitrate, not megapixels — 4 Mbps each. That is ample for most cameras but is the figure to check if you are adding high-bitrate IP cameras alongside the coax ones.
Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.
Yes — HDMI runs at 4K 30Hz with VGA simultaneously at 1080p. The 4-channel HUHI models are limited to 2K, so this is a genuine step up.
Up to 24 — eight on coax plus up to sixteen IP.
No. One SATA drive up to 12TB, supplied separately.
The resolution tier: HQHI records up to 3K / 5MP Lite, HUHI handles full 5MP and 8MP input, and HTHI is the 8MP tier.
