Hikvision iDS-9664NXI-M16/X - 64 Channel 16 Bay RAID DeepinMind NVR

The Hikvision iDS-9664NXI-M16/X is a 64-channel DeepinMind network video recorder in a 3U chassis, with sixteen SATA bays, full RAID support, two AI engines and 8K output. It is the largest recorder in the DeepinMind range.

Buy it for retention, not for analytics

The analytics are identical to the eight-bay iDS-9664NXI-M8/X: same 64 channels, same 400 Mbps in and out, same 48-channel face comparison, same 10,000,000 face captures. What changes is storage — sixteen disks at up to 16 TB is 256 TB raw, double the eight-bay model.

That matters when retention is dictated to you rather than chosen. Licensing conditions, insurer requirements and public-sector contracts often set a minimum period, and on 64 cameras carrying face-match data, ninety days is a very large amount of storage. This is the model that reaches those periods without adding a separate storage array.

RAID that does not cost you bandwidth

RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 across sixteen bays. Hikvision quotes 400 Mbps in and out in both normal and RAID modes — worth knowing, since RAID reduces throughput on some rival equipment.

Across sixteen large disks a rebuild takes days, which is the argument for RAID 6 over RAID 5 at this scale: it survives a second failure while the first is still rebuilding.

Read the bandwidth against your camera count

400 Mbps across 64 channels is roughly 6 Mbps per camera. Comfortable for 2–4 MP at sensible frame rates; not enough for sixty-four 8 MP cameras at 30 fps. Storage capacity and bandwidth are separate limits — this recorder is exceptional on the first and finite on the second.

What you'll need with it

• 3U of rack space with proper airflow. Sixteen spinning disks generate serious heat and the unit is 150 mm tall.

How does it differ from the iDS-9664NXI-M8/X?

Only storage. Sixteen bays instead of eight — 256 TB against 128 TB — in a 3U chassis rather than 2U. Identical channels, bandwidth, analytics and face libraries.

Which RAID level at this size?

RAID 6 is usually right on sixteen large disks. A rebuild takes days, and RAID 6 survives a second failure during it. RAID 5 leaves you exposed for that window.

Does RAID reduce the bandwidth?

No — 400 Mbps in and out in both modes.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Sixteen 3.5-inch SATA drives up to 16 TB each, supplied separately — surveillance-rated, not desktop.
