What you will need
- A PoE+ source: a PoE+ (802.3at) PoE switch or recorder port, or a 12 VDC or 24 VAC supply.
- A recorder such as a PoE NVR with enough channels and support for the camera's resolution.
- Cat5e or Cat6 cable, up to 100m per run. Beyond that, add a PoE switch nearer the cameras and run one cable back.
- A surveillance-grade hard drive, sized for how long you need to keep footage. We fit and format it before dispatch or collection.
- Signage. If your cameras capture anything beyond your boundary you are a data controller under UK GDPR and must display a notice.
Common questions
Can it recognise faces?
Yes. Dahua lists face capture, face attributes and face recognition, matching faces against up to 10,000 face images held in 5 image libraries. Dahua designs the camera to focus on frontal faces, so the mounting position matters.
How far can it see?
Dahua's DORI figures are above: at the wide end of the lens 106 m to detect and 10 m to identify, at the tele end 320 m and 32 m. The infrared distance is up to 100m.
What does Starlight mean?
Starlight is Dahua's low-light technology. Dahua says it delivers usable video with minimal ambient light. Read our guide to Dahua Starlight low-light cameras.
What power does it need?
It accepts 12 VDC, 24 VAC or PoE+ (802.3at, Class 4). Dahua gives its power consumption as 6.1 W on PoE, or 14 W with the IR on, so use a PoE+ capable switch or recorder port.
Is it weatherproof?
Dahua rates it IP67 and IK10, for operation from -30 °C to +60 °C.
Will it work with a recorder that is not Dahua?
Dahua lists ONVIF Profile S and G. Tell us your recorder model and we will check it with you.
Can it record on the camera?
Yes. It has a microSD card slot for cards up to 128 GB and supports NAS storage.
Are there other Dahua face recognition or face detection cameras?
The IPC-HF8242F-FR is a 2MP Starlight face recognition box camera, and the IPC-HF8242F-FD is a 2MP Starlight face detection box camera.
