Dahua IPC-HF8242F-FD — 2MP 1080p AI Face Detection Starlight Box IP CCTV Camera
The Dahua IPC-HF8242F-FD is a 2MP 1080p AI face detection box IP CCTV camera from Dahua's AI series. It pairs a 1/1.8" progressive scan CMOS sensor with Starlight low-light technology and a C/CS lens mount. It detects frontal faces, captures optimised face snapshots and extracts six face attributes.
Also listed as DH-IPC-HF8242F-FD.
As a box-style security camera it takes a C/CS-mount lens of your choice and adds Starlight low-light video, face detection and a built-in microphone to a CCTV system.
Key features
- 2MP (1920 × 1080) from a 1/1.8" progressive scan CMOS sensor, up to 50/60 fps at 1080p on the main stream, with three streams.

Works with
Dahua's datasheet lists these wall mounts for this camera:
What you will need
- A lens: the camera takes a C/CS-mount lens, so choose one to suit the view you need.
- A PoE source: a PoE switch or recorder port, or a 12 VDC or 24 VAC supply.
- A recorder such as a PoE NVR with enough channels and support for the camera's resolution.
- Cat5e or Cat6 cable, up to 100m per run. Beyond that, add a PoE switch nearer the cameras and run one cable back.
- A surveillance-grade hard drive, sized for how long you need to keep footage. We fit and format it before dispatch or collection.
- Signage. If your cameras capture anything beyond your boundary you are a data controller under UK GDPR and must display a notice.
Common questions
Can it recognise faces?
It detects faces. Dahua lists real-time face detection, optimised face snapshots, face enhancement and six face attributes, but the datasheet does not list face recognition or a face database. For matching against stored faces, see the Dahua IPC-HDBW8242E-Z4FR face recognition dome camera, which Dahua lists with a database of up to 10,000 face images, or the box-style Dahua IPC-HF8242F-FR face recognition box camera.
Does it come with a lens?
Dahua's datasheet gives the lens mount as C/CS and lists the lens specification as N/A. It lists 3.7 to 16mm and 10.5 to 42mm lenses as optional accessories. Tell us the view you need and we will help you choose.
What does Starlight mean?
Starlight is Dahua's low-light technology. Dahua says it delivers usable video with minimal ambient light. Read our guide to Dahua Starlight low-light cameras.
Can it be used outdoors?
The datasheet gives no ingress protection rating for the camera body and lists PFH610 series housings as optional accessories. It operates from -30 °C to +60 °C.
What power does it need?
It accepts 12 VDC, 24 VAC or PoE (802.3af, Class 0).
Will it work with a recorder that is not Dahua?
Dahua lists ONVIF Profile S and G. Tell us your recorder model and we will check it with you.
What audio and alarm connections does it have?
Two audio inputs and one audio output, plus a built-in microphone, and two alarm inputs and two alarm outputs.
Can it record to an SD card?
Yes. It has a microSD card slot for cards up to 128 GB and also supports NAS storage.
