The Hikvision DS-2CD23126G3-IS2UY/SL is the 12MP turret with active deterrence — the same high-resolution sensor as our DS-2CD23126G3-I2UY, with a strobe, a siren and an alarm relay added.

Resolution that actually buys identification distance

DORI (EN 62676-4) is the measure that decides whether footage is evidence:

Identification roughly doubles against a 4MP camera. On a driveway, forecourt or yard entrance where the camera cannot sit right on top of the action, that is the difference between useful footage and evidence.

What the extra letters add

Against the plain 12MP turret, this model gains:

• White strobe (/SL). The /SRB variant flashes red and blue instead
• 110 dB speaker for audible warnings or live speech
• 1 alarm input and 1 output at 24V AC/DC, 1A — drives a sounder, gate or lighting contactor directly
• Audio line in and line out alongside the arrayed dual microphone

AcuSense classifies people and vehicles on the camera, so the strobe and siren fire for what matters — the thing that stops a deterrence camera being switched off within a week.

Worth knowing before you order

12MP records at 20fps, not 25. Drop to 4K for a full 25fps. For most surveillance 20fps is smooth and the extra detail is worth more.

Minimum focus is 2.9 metres at 2.8mm. Mounted directly above a doorway at head height the image will be soft — this camera wants standoff, which suits its longer identification range anyway.

It needs 802.3at PoE, up to 18W — nearly double the 10.5W of the plain 12MP model, because the strobe and speaker draw power. An 802.3af switch will not run it.

Check your NVR supports 12MP — many older recorders stop at 8MP. And at 24 Mbps it generates roughly three times the storage of a 4MP camera; size it with our storage calculator.

Infrared only, no white light for imaging. The strobe is a deterrent, not an illuminator — night footage is monochrome.

What can the alarm output switch?

Does the strobe help the picture at night?

No. It is a deterrent. Imaging at night uses the 30m infrared, so footage is monochrome.

Will my PoE switch run it?

Only if it supports 802.3at. At 18W this exceeds the 802.3af standard.

How close can it focus?

2.9 metres at 2.8mm, 3.5 metres at 4mm. Give it some standoff.
