Hikvision DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY/SL 16MP AcuSense Turret with Strobe and Siren

The Hikvision DS-2CD23166G3-IS2UY/SL is the 16MP turret with active deterrence — the same sensor as our DS-2CD23166G3-I2UY, plus a strobe, a siren and an alarm relay.

16MP does not see further — it sees taller

This is the point most people get wrong about the 16MP models, so it is worth stating plainly:

Both sensors are 4608 pixels wide, and DORI measures horizontal pixel density — so identification distance is exactly the same, at 11 metres at 2.8mm and 14 metres at 4mm. The extra four megapixels are entirely vertical.

Which makes it right for specific shapes

Choose this where the scene is tall rather than wide: corridors, aisles, stairwells, alleyways, tall shop frontages, or a doorway plus its approach. You get a third more scene height than a widescreen camera would give you.

If your scene is wide — a car park, a forecourt, a yard — the 12MP version is the better buy. It costs less, records faster and reaches exactly as far.

Active deterrence on board

• White strobe (/SL); the /SRB flashes red and blue
• 110 dB speaker for warnings or live speech
• 1 alarm input and 1 output at 24V AC/DC, 1A — drives a sounder, gate or lighting contactor
• Arrayed dual microphone with audio line in and line out

AcuSense classifies people and vehicles on the camera, so deterrence fires for what matters rather than for weather and wildlife.

Worth knowing before you order

16MP records at 12.5fps. That is the honest limit of this camera and noticeably below full motion. Step down to 12MP for 20fps, or 4K for a full 25fps. For a corridor where people walk, 12.5fps is fine; for a till or fast doorway, drop the resolution.

Minimum focus is 2.9 metres. It wants standoff.

Check your NVR supports 16MP — many recorders stop at 8MP or 12MP. Ask us and we will confirm.

It needs 802.3at PoE, up to 18W.

Infrared only. The strobe is a deterrent, not an illuminator — night footage is monochrome.

Frequently asked questions

Is 16MP better than 12MP?

Not for distance — both identify at 11 metres, because both are 4608 pixels wide. 16MP gives a taller 4:3 image, better for corridors and stairwells, worse for wide open areas.

Why only 12.5fps?

16MP is a very large frame. Step down to 12MP for 20fps or 4K for 25fps if motion matters more than maximum detail.

What can the alarm output switch?

Up to 24V AC or DC at 1A — a sounder, relay module, gate trigger or lighting contactor.

Does it need a special recorder?

One that supports 16MP. Check before ordering; many do not.

Does the strobe help the picture at night?

No — it is a deterrent. Night imaging uses the 30m infrared, so footage is monochrome.
