This is the 4 mm version of Hikvision's 8 MP G2H turret: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160, an F1.0 lens, AcuSense human and vehicle classification, a built-in microphone and 30 m of infrared — all in the same compact 138 mm all-metal housing as the 4 MP models.

AcuSense deep-learning classification separates people and vehicles from foliage, rain, shadows and animals, so line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting trigger only on real targets. Face capture is supported.

Eight watts for a 4K camera

The specification that stands out is the power draw: maximum 8 W on 802.3af Class 3. That is less than the 4 MP DS-2CD2346G2H-IU in the same range, which draws 9 W, and under half what the strobe-and-siren models need on 802.3at.

It matters when you are filling a recorder. On an NVR with a fixed total PoE budget shared across every port, this is one of the cheapest 4K cameras to power that Hikvision make — you can populate every port with 4K rather than mixing resolutions to stay inside the budget.

4 mm or 2.8 mm — which to order

Same camera, different lens. At 4 mm the field of view is 93.3° horizontal and the DORI figures are detect 109 m, observe 43 m, recognise 21 m, identify 10 m. At 2.8 mm the view opens to 108.8° but the figures fall to 89 m detect and 8 m identify.

Choose 4 mm where the camera looks along a length and detail at distance matters. Choose 2.8 mm for breadth close in. Note the 4 mm holds focus from 3.8 m rather than 3.3 m, so it is the weaker choice mounted close to its subject.

Be realistic about the infrared: it reaches 30 m against a 109 m detection range. After dark this camera's working distance is set by the illuminator, not the optics. Where the view is long and unlit, the bullet models in this range carry 60 m or 80 m IR and are the better match.

What it has, and what it doesn't

The -IU suffix means a built-in microphone — audio recorded alongside video with no extra hardware. There is no speaker, no strobe, and no alarm or audio terminal block. Ethernet port, microSD slot and reset key are its only physical interfaces.

• Want two-way audio and an on-camera siren? The DS-2CD2386G2H-IS2U/SL adds both, at the cost of needing an 802.3at port.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 4 mm better than the 2.8 mm?

Not better, different. It sees further with more detail over a narrower field. For close, wide coverage the 2.8 mm is the right choice.

Does it record sound?

Yes — the -IU has a built-in microphone. Check that recording audio is lawful and signposted for your site before enabling it.

Will 8 W really run a 4K camera?

Yes. Hikvision rate it at 802.3af Class 3, max. 8 W. The deterrence models in this family need 802.3at because of their strobe and speaker, not because of the sensor.

Will it work on a third-party NVR?

It supports ONVIF Profile S, T and G, so it will record on most ONVIF recorders. AcuSense classification is best supported on Hikvision recorders.
