The Hikvision DS-2CD63C5G1-S/RC is the 12MP version of the retail analytics fisheye — a full hemisphere at 3504 × 3504, with people counting, queue timing and heat mapping running on the camera.

12MP or 6MP? The trade is not one-sided

This and the 6MP version share a body, a mount, the same analytics and the same 8W power draw. What differs:

More pixels, less light. The sensor is the same physical size, so twice the pixels means each one is smaller and gathers less. In a well-lit shop that is irrelevant; in a dim warehouse or an evening-trading venue the 6MP model will hold colour longer.

Choose this one for larger spaces where you want more detail across the hemisphere, or where you will be pulling virtual PTZ views out of the recording afterwards. Choose the 6MP where light is the constraint.

What it measures

Four analytics run on board, exactly as on the 6MP model:

• People counting — in, out and passing by, counted separately, up to three regions, with reports emailed daily, weekly, monthly or annually
• Queue management — up to eight regions, measuring both queue length and waiting time, with threshold alarms and raw data export
• Heat mapping — where people go and how long they dwell, as a space map or a time chart
• Intersection analysis — flow through a junction of up to ten ways

These answer a manager's questions rather than a security question: whether to open another till, which aisle end performs, when the queue builds.

One camera, twenty views

The 1.29mm lens covers 180° by 180° from a single ceiling point, with no blind spot beneath it and nothing to aim. Twenty dewarping modes turn the circular image into usable views — 180° and 360° panorama, four virtual PTZ windows, fisheye plus three or eight PTZ, hemisphere, cylinder.

Because the whole hemisphere is always recorded, you can pull a virtual PTZ view out of past footage — something no conventional camera can do.

Be clear about the limits

Identification range is 2.8 metres. This is a counting and behaviour camera. It will tell you that sixty people came in and nine queued for five minutes; it will not identify a stranger at ten metres. Pair it with a conventional camera at the entrance.

−10°C to +40°C, indoor only, with no weather rating. Not for an unheated warehouse in winter.

Digital WDR, not true WDR, and 0.03 lux. It wants a properly lit space.

Frequently asked questions

Is 12MP better than the 6MP version?

For detail, yes — identification at 2.8m against 2.3m, and more to work with when zooming into recordings. For low light, no: 0.03 lux against 0.01, because the pixels are smaller.

Can I recognise faces with it?

Only within about 2.8 metres. A fisheye spreads its pixels across a whole hemisphere — use it for counting and behaviour, and put a conventional camera at the door for identification.

Can I zoom into recorded footage?

Yes. The full hemisphere is always captured, so virtual PTZ views can be pulled from past recordings.

Does it need special software?

The analytics run on the camera and email reports directly. Hik-Central adds richer reporting if you want it.

Can it go outside?

No — −10°C to +40°C, no weather rating, heated indoor spaces only.
