The Hikvision DS-2CD6984G1-IHSUY is a 32 megapixel PanoVu — four lenses producing one seamless panoramic image of 8160 × 3616 across 185 degrees, at full 25fps.
This is the distinction that matters against a multisensor camera. A four-directional multisensor gives you four separate video channels to watch, record and licence. This stitches its four lenses into a single continuous panorama — one stream, one channel, no seams to track a person across.
For an operator watching a quayside, a runway apron, a stadium concourse or a long perimeter, that is a fundamentally easier thing to monitor. Someone walking the full 185 degrees stays in one frame throughout.
8160 pixels wide is what makes the panorama usable rather than decorative. The DORI figures hold up across the whole scene:
Identification at nearly nine metres across a 185° field is a different proposition from a fisheye, which manages two or three.
All four lenses are F1.0 — the widest aperture Hikvision fit — giving 0.002 lux in colour and 0.0005 lux in monochrome. There is also 20 metres of infrared from four LEDs for genuine darkness.
Alongside gigabit copper there is an FC fibre optic interface taking an SFP module — single mode, 1250 Mbps, up to 20 kilometres.
That is the feature that puts this camera on ports, airfields, rail corridors and large industrial estates: positions far beyond the 100-metre limit of Ethernet, without a chain of switches in between.
64 Mbps is a serious bitrate. At full panorama this generates roughly four times the data of a 4K camera. Plan storage and network accordingly — our storage calculator will help, and it wants surveillance-rated hard drives.
Check your recorder can handle 8160 × 3616. Many cannot. Ask us before ordering and we will confirm compatibility.
The lenses are fixed at 2.8mm. The panorama is the product — there is no zoom.
Digital WDR, not true WDR, despite the price. Worth knowing for scenes with extreme backlight.
It needs 802.3at and draws 25W, and at 4.2kg the mount must suit.
A multisensor gives four separate channels. This stitches four lenses into one continuous 32MP panorama — a single stream, far easier to monitor, and one recorder channel rather than four.
Camera positions beyond Ethernet's 100-metre limit. The SFP module carries the stream up to 20 kilometres over single-mode fibre.
8.9 metres, across the full 185° field — considerably further than a fisheye covering a similar angle.
Yes. It has a built-in heater and is rated to −40°C.
Hardware-backed cryptographic security certified to FIPS 140-2 Level 2 — generally a requirement in government, utilities and other regulated environments.
