The Hikvision DS-2CD6D44G1H-IZS is a four-directional multisensor — four independently aimable 4MP cameras in one housing, each with a proper 2.8–12mm motorised zoom.

Four heads with genuine reach

Most multisensor cameras give you four fixed or short-range lenses. Each head here runs 2.8 to 12mm, so the view per channel goes from 102.4° wide down to 31.2° — and that changes what the camera can be used for.

You are not limited to four quadrants of the immediate area. Point one head down a long approach road at 12mm, spread two across a yard at 2.8mm, and put the fourth on a gate. Each head is set independently, from the desk, after installation.

The movement range is generous too: pan −180° to +180°, tilt 0° to 135°, rotate 0° to 355° per head. The 135° tilt means a head can look well below horizontal — useful when the camera is high on a mast.

One cable, four cameras

Four camera positions would mean four cable runs, four PoE ports, four brackets and four lots of labour at height. This is one cable, one port, one mount — which on a pole, a mast or a difficult façade is usually the whole commercial case.

Built for exposed positions

IP67 and IK10 — the highest impact rating in common use — with an operating range of −30°C to +60°C and EN 50121-4 railway EMC certification. EIS stabilisation handles pole sway.

30 metres of infrared, 0.005 lux colour sensitivity and 120dB true WDR for scenes with strong backlight.

How it compares to the five-directional model

This model reaches further; the five-directional covers the ground beneath the mount. If the camera sits above a doorway or on a low pole where people pass directly under it, the fifth head matters. If it is watching approaches at distance, the longer zoom here is worth more.

Worth knowing before you order

Four NVR channels, not one. The commonest misunderstanding with multisensor cameras — confirm recorder capacity and licensing first.

23.4W on 802.3at. A standard 802.3af switch will not run it.

Ø290mm and 7.7kg. The mounting structure needs to suit, particularly on a pole.

Focus is semi-automatic. Each head is set up individually at commissioning.

Can the heads be aimed separately?

Yes — each pans, tilts through 135° and rotates independently, with its own 2.8–12mm motorised zoom set from the desk.

How does it compare to a fisheye?

A fisheye gives one distorted hemisphere with identification at two or three metres. This gives four properly rectilinear 4MP images with real zoom lenses — far more usable detail at distance.

Will a normal PoE switch run it?

Only an 802.3at switch with headroom — it draws up to 23.4W.

Is there a blind spot underneath?

Yes, as with any four-head design. The five-directional model adds a fifth channel looking straight down if that matters on your site.
