The Hikvision DS-2CE72UF3T-LSYE is a 4K turret camera with Smart Hybrid Light — and the word that matters is hybrid. It carries both infrared and white light, so you are not forced to choose one at the point of purchase.
Most night cameras make you pick a side:
This camera has 40 metres of each. Run it in IR for discretion on a residential boundary, or in white light where colour identification matters and a visible deterrent is welcome. Or let it switch automatically — staying on IR until something is detected, then lighting up in colour.
On a site where you cannot decide in advance, or where the requirement changes between summer and winter, that flexibility is the whole argument for this model over a plain ColorVu or a plain IR camera.
The F1.0 aperture gathers enough light to hold colour down to 0.0005 lux — roughly starlight — before any illumination is needed. 130 dB true WDR handles the harder case: a face against a bright doorway or sky, which without WDR becomes a silhouette.
There is a built-in microphone with a 5-metre pickup radius, and the audio travels down the same coaxial cable as the video — no separate microphone run. Paired with a compatible recorder that means video, power and sound on one cable per camera.
Recording audio carries its own legal considerations — see our FAQ on CCTV law.
Alongside IP67 weatherproofing it carries NEMA 4X anti-corrosion certification — a step beyond the standard rating and worth having near the coast, on farms, or anywhere with salt or chemicals in the air. Operating range is −40°C to +60°C.
4K records at 12.5–15fps, not 25. Drop to 3K and you get 20–25fps, or 4MP at a full 25–30fps. For general surveillance the resolution is usually worth more than the frame rate, but for a till or a fast doorway, 4MP at 25fps may be the better record.
The lens is fixed, so choose the focal length before ordering: 2.8mm for width, 3.6mm for a little more reach.
Hikvision specifically recommends one power adapter per camera rather than daisy-chaining several on one supply — or use a PoC recorder and avoid the question entirely.
The camera has both infrared and white light LEDs. You can run it in IR for discreet black-and-white footage, in white light for full colour, or set it to switch automatically when something is detected.
No. It can run purely on infrared if visible light would be a nuisance to neighbours — you simply lose the colour at night.
No. Audio travels down the coax with the video, provided the recorder supports audio over coax.
2.8mm gives a 105° view for driveways, forecourts and shop floors. 3.6mm narrows to 90° for a little more detail at distance. It is fixed, so decide before ordering.
Corrosion resistance. Worth having near the coast, on farms and in industrial settings where salt or chemicals would attack a standard housing.
