The Hikvision DS-7716NI-M4/16P is a 16-channel Ultra Series network video recorder in a 19-inch 1.5U rack chassis, with sixteen built-in PoE ports, four SATA bays and 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.

Who is it for?

Sixteen-camera systems that need serious storage and want the recorder to power the cameras. Sixteen PoE ports at a 200 W budget means one cable per camera and no separate switch; four drive bays plus eSATA means retention measured in months rather than weeks.

This is the version to choose on a standalone system. If the site already has a managed PoE switch — common on commercial networks where the IT team wants camera power under their control — the plain DS-7716NI-M4 is the same recorder without the PoE ports, and cheaper.

What you'll need with it

• Hard drives — none are supplied. Four SATA bays, up to 16 TB each. Use surveillance-rated drives such as WD Purple; desktop drives are not built for continuous writing. Size them with our CCTV storage calculator.
• Cameras within the 200 W PoE budget. Fine for sixteen standard cameras, but PTZs, heaters and illuminators draw considerably more — send us your models and we will total it before you order.
• Rack space — this is a 1.5U 19-inch chassis, not a desktop box.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the plain DS-7716NI-M4?

This version has sixteen PoE ports built in and powers the cameras directly. The plain M4 has none and needs a separate PoE switch. Everything else — channels, bandwidth, drive bays, outputs — is identical.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Four SATA drives up to 16 TB each, supplied separately.

Will 200 W run sixteen cameras?

Comfortably for standard fixed cameras, which typically draw 5–12 W each. PTZs with heaters can draw 30 W or more, so a mixed system needs the total checked — tell us your models.

Can I run two monitors?

Yes. HDMI 2 runs independently of HDMI 1 and VGA, so two screens can show different views.

Is it RAID capable?

No. Four independent disks. If you need RAID, ask us about the DS-96000 series.
