Hikvision DS-7716NXI-I4/S(E) - 16 Channel 4 Bay AcuSense NVR

The Hikvision DS-7716NXI-I4/S(E) is a 16-channel AcuSense network video recorder in a 19-inch 1.5U rack chassis, with four SATA bays plus eSATA, AcuSearch and support for cameras up to 32 MP.

Important — this model has no PoE ports

The DS-7716NXI-I4/S does not power cameras. It has two gigabit network ports and expects camera power to come from a PoE switch. On a site with structured cabling and a comms room that is often preferable — it keeps camera power under the network team's control — but the switch must be budgeted for. If you want the recorder to power the cameras, the DS-7716NXI-I4/16P/S is the same machine with sixteen PoE ports at 200 W.

Four bays is the reason to choose this over the smaller I-series

The two-bay DS-7616NXI-I2/16P/S runs the same analytics, but caps out at 32 TB. This one takes four disks at up to 16 TB each, plus an eSATA port — so 64 TB before external storage. Across sixteen cameras that is the difference between weeks of retention and months of it.

It also brings the interfaces a commercial install needs: sixteen alarm inputs and nine outputs, two RS-485 ports and RS-232 for intruder panels, barriers and access control, and dual HDMI so a second screen can show a different view.

What the analytics actually do

AcuSearch models up to 172,800 targets a day, letting you search recordings by what appeared in them rather than by time. ANPR is supported in the UK and Ireland with compatible cameras, reading plate number, colour and type. Face recognition holds 50,000 pictures across 16 libraries with 8-channel comparison, and can identify attributes including glasses and masks. The recorder also stores and presents heat map data from compatible cameras.

What you'll need with it

• A PoE switch for the cameras — this recorder does not supply power. Tell us the camera models and we will size one.
• Hard drives — none are supplied. Four bays at up to 16 TB. Size them with our CCTV storage calculator and tell us the retention you need to meet.
• 1.5U of rack space, and Cat6 to each camera.

Does it power my cameras?

No. Use a switch, or the DS-7716NXI-I4/16P/S which has sixteen PoE ports at 200 W.

How does it compare to the DS-7616NXI-I2/16P/S?

Same analytics. This one has four drive bays instead of two, an eSATA port, 16 alarm inputs instead of 4, serial interfaces and dual HDMI — but no PoE. Choose it for retention and integration.

Does ANPR work on UK plates?

Yes, the United Kingdom and Ireland are both in Hikvision's supported list, with compatible cameras.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Four SATA drives up to 16 TB each, supplied separately — surveillance-rated, not desktop.

Is it RAID capable?

No. Four independent disks. For RAID, look at the DS-9600 series.
