Hikvision iDS-7204HQHI-M1/XT - 4 Channel AcuSense DVR

The Hikvision iDS-7204HQHI-M1/XT is a 4-channel AcuSense DVR — the entry point of the current M-series, and the cheapest way to get people-and-vehicle filtering onto an existing coax system.

AcuSense is the reason to buy this over a K-series

Motion Detection 2.0 is enabled by default on every analogue channel. The recorder classifies what moved and separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals — the things that generate the false alarms most people eventually switch notifications off to escape.

Crucially, the analysis happens in the recorder, not the camera. That means your existing analogue cameras get AcuSense filtering without being replaced. On an IP system you would have to buy AcuSense cameras to get the same benefit.

You can also search recorded footage by object or event type rather than scrubbing through by time.

Face recognition, on a budget DVR

It supports 1-channel face picture comparison against up to 16 face picture libraries, working with an HD analogue camera. Alternatively the same processing can be used for 2-channel perimeter protection, or 2-channel AcuSearch. You choose how to spend the AI capacity.

Five signal types, and room to grow

Every BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS, so it records whatever is already on site, including old analogue cameras. On top of the four coax channels it takes 2 IP cameras as standard, expandable to 6, at up to 6MP — a total of up to 6 cameras when mixing.

Two honest limits

The display output is 1080p, not 4K. Higher models in the range drive a 4K monitor; this one does not. For a four-camera system on a standard monitor that is rarely an issue, but it is worth knowing before you buy.

Recording tops out at 3K / 5MP Lite. If you need full 5MP or 8MP recording, look at the HUHI and HTHI models instead — the letters in the model number are the resolution tier.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 10TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
• Cameras and coax — it powers nothing over the cable, so cameras need their own supply. If you want power over the coax, look at the PoC (/PXT) models.

Frequently asked questions

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes — that is the advantage of putting the AI in the recorder. Any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification, with no camera upgrade.

Can I use my existing coax cable?

Yes. HD-TVI runs on the same RG59 as older analogue systems, so an upgrade is usually a recorder-and-camera swap.

What's the difference between this and the HUHI model?

Resolution. HQHI records up to 3K / 5MP Lite; HUHI goes to full 5MP; HTHI reaches 8MP.

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. One SATA drive up to 10TB, supplied separately.

How many cameras can it take in total?

Six — four on coax and two IP, or fewer coax and more IP up to a 6-camera total.
