Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M2/PXT - 8 Channel 2 Bay AcuSense PoC DVR

The Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M2/PXT is an 8-channel 5MP AcuSense PoC DVR with two drive bays. It powers the cameras over the same coax that carries the video, and has the storage capacity to keep the footage for months rather than weeks.

PoC removes the power run

On a normal coax install every camera needs video cable and a power run back to a PSU. Here the recorder sends 48V down the coax: one cable per camera, no power supply box, no spur to fuse, no socket at height.

On a retrofit where coax already runs to each position but the power is tired or awkward, that is the difference between a straightforward swap and a rewire. It requires Hikvision PoC cameras — ordinary HD-TVI cameras will work on video but still need their own supply, so plan the cameras alongside the recorder.

Two bays is the other reason to choose it

Two SATA bays at up to 12TB each — 24TB total. Across eight 5MP cameras that is months of retention rather than weeks, which matters on any site where an incident might not be reported for a fortnight.

The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras

Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the recorder and is enabled by default on every analogue channel, so existing cameras gain people and vehicle classification without being replaced. Up to 8 channels of advanced perimeter protection, 4-channel face capture and 4-channel face comparison against 16 libraries.

The face library is backed up to both disk and internal flash, so a drive failure does not destroy it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need power supplies for my cameras?

Not with Hikvision PoC cameras — the recorder powers them over the coax. Non-PoC cameras will still need their own supply.

Can I reuse my existing coax?

Usually yes, and that is the main reason to choose PoC on a retrofit. Cable condition and run length matter, so tell us what is installed.

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification.

How many cameras in total?

Up to 24 — eight on coax plus up to sixteen IP at 8MP.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Two SATA drives up to 12TB each, supplied separately.
