Hikvision DS-2CE56H0T-IT3E 5MP PoC Turret Camera with 40m IR

The Hikvision DS-2CE56H0T-IT3E is a 5MP turret camera, and the E on the end of the model number is the part that matters: it is a PoC camera — Power over Coax.

One cable per camera instead of two

A standard analogue camera needs two things at the camera position: coax for the video, and a power cable back to a PSU. This one takes its power down the same coax that carries the picture.

On a new install that halves the cable pulls. On a retrofit it matters even more — if the old coax is sound but the power runs are tired or were never there, you can often reuse the existing cable and skip a rewire entirely. No spur to fuse, no socket at height, no PSU box on the wall.

It requires a PoC recorder — a DVR with a /P or /PXT suffix. Plugged into an ordinary DVR the camera works, but you will need to power it conventionally at 12V DC. Our DVR buying guide explains which recorders supply PoC and how the power budget differs by channel count.

40 metres of infrared, and a lens to suit the view

Smart IR reaches 40 metres and throttles the output at close range so faces are not blown out — the usual failing of long-range IR on a doorway camera.

The camera ships in several fixed focal lengths, and this is the decision worth taking care over because it cannot be changed afterwards:

• 2.8mm — 85.5° · a whole driveway, shop floor or yard entrance
• 3.6mm — 80.1° · the usual general-purpose choice
• 6mm — 57.1° · a narrower approach, gate or corridor
• 8mm — 41° and 12mm — 25.7° · distance over width, such as a long yard or car park row

Worth knowing before you order

5MP records at 20fps, not 25. Drop to 4MP and you get 25fps. For general surveillance 20fps is smooth and the extra detail is worth more; for a till or production line, 4MP may suit better.

This is a TVI camera, not a 4-in-1 — it outputs HD analogue on the TVI protocol. Any Hikvision or HD-TVI recorder handles it.

Frequently asked questions

What does PoC actually save me?

One cable run per camera. The recorder sends power up the coax, so there is no separate power cable, no PSU box and no mains spur at the camera.

Do I need a special recorder?

For PoC, yes — a DVR with /P or /PXT in the model number. Without one the camera still works on 12V DC in the normal way.

Which lens should I pick?

2.8mm or 3.6mm for general coverage; 6mm and above when you need detail at distance rather than width. It is fixed, so choose before you order.

Is 40m of infrared realistic?

40m is the maximum throw in open conditions. Useful identification happens well inside that — the figure describes how far the IR reaches, not how far you can recognise a face.

Will it work with my existing coax?

Usually yes. HD-TVI runs on the same RG59 as older analogue systems, which is what makes PoC retrofits straightforward.
