Hikvision DS-2CD2785G0-IZS 4K DarkFighter Motorised Varifocal Dome Camera

The Hikvision DS-2CD2785G0-IZS is a 4K DarkFighter dome — a camera bought for three specific reasons: resolution, low-light performance, and the fact that it is genuinely hard to break.

IK10 — the part that matters on a dome

Domes get chosen for discretion, but the real reason to fit one in a stairwell, a car park or outside a pub is that it is rated IK10: tested against a 20-joule impact, roughly a 5kg mass dropped from 40cm. A bullet camera on a bracket can be knocked out of alignment by hand. This cannot.

It is also IP66 and rated to −30°C, so it belongs outdoors as readily as in a lobby.

4K plus DarkFighter, not one or the other

Resolution alone is no use at night. DarkFighter is Hikvision's low-light sensor technology, and paired with the F1.4 lens it produces colour at 0.008 lux before infrared is needed. Once the IR does cut in it reaches 30 metres.

The motorised 2.8–12mm lens with auto-focus means you set the framing from the desk, not from a ladder — useful on a dome mounted high in a stairwell where getting back to it is a genuine nuisance. The view ranges from a wide 112° down to a tight 46°.

ANR — footage that survives a network drop

This is the feature most specifications list and almost nobody explains. The camera takes a microSD card up to 128GB, and with ANR enabled it keeps recording locally whenever the link to the NVR fails. When the network returns, it back-fills the gap automatically.

On a site with a flaky link, a contractor who unplugs a switch, or a remote building on a wireless bridge, that is the difference between a hole in your footage and a complete record. Worth enabling on any camera that matters.

Analytics and audio built in

Smart events run on the camera itself: line crossing, intrusion detection, unattended baggage and object removal, plus face detection. There is also audio in and out on 3.5mm and an alarm input and output — enough to wire a PIR or trigger a sounder without extra hardware.

Worth knowing before you order

4K records at 20fps, not 25. Step down to 3K or 1440p and you get 25fps. For most surveillance 20fps is smooth; where movement is fast and close, a lower resolution at 25fps can be the better record.

It is a 10/100 network port, not gigabit. With a 16 Mbps ceiling that is ample for this camera, but worth knowing if you are specifying switch ports.

Frequently asked questions

What does IK10 mean in practice?

It survives a 20-joule impact — the highest rating in common use. Appropriate wherever the camera is reachable: stairwells, car parks, licensed premises.

Do I need an SD card?

Not to record to an NVR, but fitting one enables ANR, which fills in any footage lost while the network was down. Strongly recommended.

Will it work with a non-Hikvision NVR?

Yes — it supports ONVIF Profile S and G, so most recorders and VMS platforms will take it. Hikvision recorders integrate most fully.

How much PoE does it draw?

Up to 12.5W on 802.3af class 3. Check your switch or NVR budget if you are running several on one device.

Is DarkFighter the same as ColorVu?

No. DarkFighter is a very sensitive sensor that still uses infrared at night; ColorVu uses white light to record full colour in darkness. DarkFighter is discreet, ColorVu gives colour.
