Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT/4A+8/4ALM - 8 Channel AcuSense DVR with Audio and Alarm

The Hikvision iDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT/4A+8/4ALM is an 8-channel AcuSense DVR — the same recorder as the standard iDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT, but supplied with the audio and alarm options already fitted.

What the suffix means

The long model number is doing real work. On the standard M1/XT, Hikvision lists audio inputs as "1-ch, up to 8-ch optional" and alarm I/O as "not fitted, optional to support". This version is the optioned build:

• 4A — 4 RCA audio inputs fitted
• 8/4ALM — 8 alarm inputs and 4 alarm outputs fitted

That matters because the options cannot be added later. If the install needs to trigger recording from an alarm panel, PIR or door contact — or to record audio at more than one position — this is the version to order. Buying the standard M1/XT and discovering the terminals are absent means replacing the recorder.

The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras

People and vehicle classification runs on the recorder, so your existing analogue cameras gain it without being replaced — separating people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and letting you search recordings by object or event type.

Analytics capacity is generous: up to 8 channels of advanced perimeter protection, 4-channel face capture and 4-channel face comparison against up to 16 libraries. The face library is backed up to both disk and internal flash, so a drive failure does not destroy it.

One thing to plan for

One drive bay. Eight cameras at 5MP or above fill a disk faster than most people expect. Up to 12TB helps, but if you need months of retention rather than weeks, the two-bay iDS-7208HUHI-M2/PXT is worth comparing.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 12TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
• Camera power — it does not power cameras over the coax. Ask about the PoC models if you want that.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the standard iDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT?

Identical recorder, but with 4 audio inputs and 8/4 alarm I/O fitted from the factory. On the standard model those are optional and not present.

Can I add the alarm inputs later?

No. The terminals are a factory-fitted option, so order this version if the system needs them.

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.

What can I connect to the alarm inputs?

Typically PIRs, door contacts, panic buttons or an alarm panel output — so an alarm event can trigger recording or a camera preset. The outputs can drive a sounder, strobe or gate relay.

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. One SATA drive up to 12TB, supplied separately.
