This is the 4 mm version of Hikvision's 4 MP ColorVu mini bullet with active deterrence. A 1/1.8" sensor behind an F1.0 lens reaching 0.0001 lux, Smart Hybrid Light for full-colour night recording, and a white strobe with a 110 dB siren — all in a 530 g body just 74 mm across.

4 mm or 2.8 mm — which to order

Same camera, different lens. At 4 mm the field of view is 95.2° horizontal and the DORI figures are detect 75 m, observe 30 m, recognise 15 m, identify 7 m. At 2.8 mm the view widens to 111.1° but the figures fall to 61 m detect and 6 m identify.

Choose 4 mm where the camera looks along a length — a driveway, a side passage, a car park aisle. Choose 2.8 mm for breadth close in. The 4 mm holds focus from 3.1 m rather than 2.5 m, so it is the weaker option mounted close to its subject.

The most deterrent per gram in the range

The speaker is rated 110 dB at 10 cm — the same as the 12 MP and 16 MP G3 turrets, and louder than the 105 dB of the 8 MP G2H strobe turrets. In a camera weighing 530 g and measuring Ø74.4 mm, that is a great deal of warning from a very small housing.

The strobe and audible warning fire on the camera's own event rules, so deterrence works on a standalone install with no recorder involved.

Colour at night — and the honest limit

Smart Hybrid Light gives three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, visibly lit), and Smart Hybrid (infrared until an event, then white light and colour). That third mode is why most people buy this — discreet by default, colour when it matters.

The limit worth knowing: the supplement light reaches 40 m against a 75 m detection range at this lens. That is shorter than the 60 m on the larger DS-2CD2T47G3 bullet. This is a mini bullet, and the illuminator is sized to the housing. For a long unlit view, the full-size bullet is the better buy.

130 dB WDR and image stabilisation

Two specifications above the AcuSense range: 130 dB WDR rather than 120, and EIS electronic image stabilisation, which no fixed AcuSense model has. EIS matters on a slim bullet fixed to a pole or lightweight cladding, and a 4 mm lens magnifies any wind movement more than a 2.8 mm does.

Also included: distortion correction and Defog, on top of BLC, HLC and 3D DNR.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 4 mm better than the 2.8 mm?

Not better, different. It sees further with more detail over a narrower field. The lens is fixed, so it must be decided before ordering.

How loud is the siren?

110 dB at 10 cm — as loud as the 12 MP and 16 MP turrets, from a far smaller camera.

Does it really record in colour at night?

Yes, when the white light is active. In infrared mode it records in black and white. Smart Hybrid switches automatically on an event.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. It is specified for 802.3at Class 4 at up to 16 W.
