This is the deterrence version of Hikvision's 8 MP ColorVu mini bullet: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160 behind an F1.0 lens, Smart Hybrid Light for full-colour night recording, and a white strobe with a 110 dB siren — all in a 530 g housing just 74 mm across.

It is the smallest 4K camera in this range that can warn an intruder off as well as record them in colour.

Colour at night and deterrence in one camera

Most cameras do one or the other. The AcuSense strobe models warn people off but record in monochrome after dark. The plain ColorVu models record in colour but cannot warn anyone. This does both — and the white light that fires the deterrent is what captures the colour image of whoever triggered it.

Three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, permanently lit), and Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event, then white light, colour and the audible warning. Smart Hybrid is what most installs want: discreet until something happens.

A lot of camera in a very small body

At Ø74.4 mm and 530 g this is the same compact housing as the non-deterrence 8 MP mini bullet, but with a 110 dB speaker added — as loud as the 12 MP and 16 MP G3 turrets, which are larger cameras. Where a full-size bullet would look heavy-handed on a domestic frontage or a shop fascia, this gives the same warning from something the size of a torch.

The power cost

It needs 802.3at Class 4, max. 18 W, where the plain DS-2CD2087G3-LI2UY runs on 802.3af at just 7 W. That is nearly three times the draw for the same sensor and lens — the strobe and speaker account for all of it. On a recorder with a fixed PoE budget that difference decides how many you can fit, so it is worth being deliberate about which ports get the deterrence models.

Coverage and DORI

This SKU is the 2.8 mm version: horizontal FOV 108.8°, vertical 56.4°, diagonal 134.3°, depth of field from 3.3 m. Hikvision's published DORI figures are detect 89 m, observe 35 m, recognise 17 m, identify 8 m. A 4 mm version narrows the view to 93.3° and pushes identification to about 10 m.

The supplement light reaches 40 m against 89 m of detection range. Beyond 40 m in genuine darkness you rely on ambient light.

8 MP or 4 MP — the honest comparison

The 4 MP DS-2CD2047G3-LI2UY/SL uses the same 1/1.8" sensor and F1.0 lens but reaches 0.0001 lux against this camera's 0.0005 lux, because the sensor is split across half as many pixels. So the 4 MP is the better performer in the very darkest conditions; this one is better wherever there is some light and you need detail at distance. It also doubles the stream: 16 Mbps against 8 Mbps.

Frequently asked questions

Does the siren work without a recorder?

Yes. The camera's own event rules drive the strobe and audible warning, so it deters on a standalone install.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. It needs 802.3at at up to 18 W. The plain LI2UY version runs on af at 7 W.

Is it better in the dark than the 4 MP version?

No. The 4 MP reaches 0.0001 lux against this camera's 0.0005 lux. Choose 8 MP for reach and detail, 4 MP for the darkest scenes.

Can it switch an external sounder?

No — there is no alarm terminal block on this model. It deters using its own strobe and speaker.
