Hikvision DS-2CD2T46G3-2IZY/BLACK — 4 MP AcuSense motorised varifocal bullet with 60 m IR

This is the black version of Hikvision's full-size 4 MP G3 AcuSense bullet. Electronically identical to the white model: a motorised 2.8–4 mm lens set remotely from software after mounting, 60 m of infrared, 130 dB WDR and a gigabit Ethernet port. Only the finish differs.

Sixty metres of infrared — properly matched to the optics

This is the point of the camera. DORI at 2.8 mm is detect 66.6 m, observe 26.4 m, recognise 13.3 m, identify 6.7 m; at 4 mm, detect 79.2 m, identify 7.9 m. Behind that sits 60 m of IR.

Compare that with the compact G3 models, which pair 30 m or 40 m of IR with the same lens and sensor — their useful night range falls well short of what the optics resolve. This one comes close to matching, which is what matters on a driveway, yard perimeter or approach road with no lighting of its own.

Why specify black

At 287 mm and 1,165 g this is a full-size bullet, so the finish does real work. Against dark brickwork, exposed steelwork, a black fascia or a slate soffit it recedes where a white body of this size would dominate an elevation. Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white does that better.

Gigabit Ethernet

This carries a 10/100/1000 port where almost everything else in this catalogue — including the 4K and 12 MP models — is 10/100. At an 8 Mbps stream that changes nothing for one camera, but it matters on gigabit switching infrastructure and removes the camera as a future bottleneck.

Read the lens range carefully

The zoom is 2.8 to 4 mm — short, not the 2.8–12 mm of the larger varifocals. The practical gain across the whole range is about a metre of identification distance. It exists so an installer can fine-tune framing from a laptop instead of swapping lenses or returning to site. Specify it for mounting flexibility, not reach.

No audio at all

This model has no microphone, no speaker and no audio or alarm terminal block — Ethernet, microSD and reset key are the only interfaces. For audio or an on-camera siren, the DS-2CD2T46G3-IZS2UY/SL adds both.

With a high-end Hikvision card it does support memory card encryption and health detection, useful where edge recording holds evidential footage.

130 dB WDR, and an honest note on low light

Dynamic range is 130 dB, above the 120 dB of the G2H range. But the aperture is F1.6 on a 1/3" sensor, so minimum illumination is 0.001 lux — the same as the G2H turrets, not better. Its advantage after dark comes from the 60 m illuminator, not from sensor sensitivity.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black version any different to the white one?

Only the finish. Sensor, lens, illuminator, analytics and power draw are identical.

What is the difference between the 2IZY and the 4IZY?

Infrared range. The 2IZY reaches 60 m at 11.5 W; the 4IZY reaches 80 m at 12.5 W. Everything else is identical.

Does it record sound?

No. This model has no audio hardware at all.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

Yes — 11.5 W on Class 3, despite the motorised lens and long-range illuminator.
