This is the black version of the flagship ColorVu bullet. Electronically identical to the white model: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160 behind an F1.0 lens, Smart Hybrid Light out to 60 m for full-colour night recording, a 120 dB siren, and two alarm inputs and two alarm outputs. Only the finish differs.

Why specify black

Against dark brickwork, exposed steelwork, a black fascia or a slate soffit, a black bullet recedes where a white one of this size would dominate. At 286.7 mm and 1,250 g this is a substantial piece of hardware, so the finish does more work here than on a compact turret.

The strobe is unaffected: the housing is black, the flashing light is still white. That is what /SL denotes. If you need a red-and-blue police-style strobe, that is the /SRB model. And where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent at all times, the white housing does that better.

The loudest camera, and dual alarm I/O

At 120 dB at 10 cm the speaker is the loudest of anything in this catalogue — above the 110 dB G3 turrets and the 105 dB AcuSense strobe models.

2 alarm in, 2 alarm out, each rated 24 VDC/24 VAC at 1 A. Every other camera here except its 4 MP twin gives one of each. Two outputs drives two devices independently — a sounder and a gate release, or site lighting on one circuit and an alarm panel signal on the other.

Light that matches the lens

At 2.8 mm the DORI figures are detect 89 m, observe 35 m, recognise 17 m, identify 8 m, with the supplement light reaching 60 m. The compact ColorVu models pair 30 m or 40 m of light with similar optics, so for an unlit driveway or yard perimeter this is the one that actually reaches after dark.

Colour at night and deterrence together

Three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, permanently lit), and Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event, then white light, colour, strobe and siren. The light that fires the deterrent is also what captures the colour image of whoever triggered it.

The honest comparison with the 4 MP twin

The DS-2CD2T47G3-LIS2UY/SL is the same housing, same 60 m light, same 120 dB speaker and same dual alarm I/O, but reaches 0.0001 lux against this camera's 0.0005 lux. So the 4 MP performs better in genuine darkness; this one is better wherever there is some light and you need detail at distance. Storage doubles too — 16 Mbps against 8.

Only the housing finish. Sensor, lens, light, siren, alarm I/O and power draw are identical.

Is the strobe black too?

How loud is the siren?

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. It needs 802.3at Class 4 at up to 18 W.
