This is the 4 mm version of Hikvision's 4 MP ColorVu turret with active deterrence. It brings together the two things this range does best: full-colour night recording from a 1/1.8" sensor and F1.0 lens reaching 0.0001 lux, and a white strobe with a 110 dB siren that fires on the camera's own event rules.

Colour at night and deterrence in one camera

Most cameras give you one or the other. The AcuSense deterrence models have a strobe and siren but record in monochrome after dark. The plain ColorVu models record in colour but cannot warn anyone off. This one does both.

That matters because the two functions reinforce each other: the white light that triggers the deterrent is also what lets the camera capture a colour image of whoever set it off. Strobe fires, siren sounds, and the footage shows what colour the car was.

Three light modes

• Infrared — covert, monochrome, no visible light
• White light — full colour, visibly lit at all times
• Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event, then white light and colour

Smart Hybrid is the mode most installs want: discreet until something happens, then colour and a 110 dB warning.

4 mm or 2.8 mm — which to order

Same camera, different lens. At 4 mm the field of view is 95.2° horizontal and the DORI figures are detect 75 m, observe 30 m, recognise 15 m, identify 7 m. At 2.8 mm the view widens to 111.1° but the figures fall to 61 m detect and 6 m identify.

Choose 4 mm where the camera looks along a length — a driveway, a corridor, a car park aisle. Choose 2.8 mm for breadth close in. The 4 mm holds focus from 3.1 m rather than 2.5 m.

The supplement light reaches 30 m against a 75 m detection range at this lens. Beyond that in genuine darkness you rely on ambient light — though at 0.0001 lux this camera makes more of what little there is than almost anything else in the range.

The power cost of the strobe

This model needs 802.3at Class 4, max. 17 W, where the plain DS-2CD2347G3-LI2UY runs on 802.3af at 11 W. If you are adding cameras to an existing af switch or filling the last ports on a recorder, that is the specification that decides whether it fits.

Frequently asked questions

Does the siren work without a recorder?

Yes. The camera's own event rules drive the strobe and audible warning, so it deters on a standalone install.

How loud is it?

110 dB at 10 cm — matching the 12 MP and 16 MP G3 turrets, and louder than the 105 dB AcuSense strobe turrets.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. It needs 802.3at Class 4 at up to 17 W. The plain LI2UY version runs on af at 11 W.

Is the 4 mm better than the 2.8 mm?

Not better, different. It sees further over a narrower field. The lens is fixed, so decide before ordering.
