Hikvision DS-7316HTHI-K4 - 16 Channel 8MP 4K Turbo HD DVR

The Hikvision DS-7316HTHI-K4 is a 16-channel 8MP Turbo HD DVR in a 1.5U chassis with four drive bays and dual HDMI output. It is the top of the K-series coax range, and the reason to buy it is that it records 8MP over cable you may already have in the walls.

8MP over existing coax

Most DVRs stop at 4MP or 5MP. This one records at 8MP at 12 fps — the same resolution as a 4K IP camera, delivered over coaxial cable. If a building already has RG59 run to every camera position, this is the cheapest route to 4K-class footage: no new cabling, no switches, no network design.

It carries a 16 Mbps bitrate ceiling, which is what lets it allocate the data rate 8MP footage actually needs rather than compressing it harder to fit.

Five signal types on any channel

Each BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS. In practice it will record whatever is already on site — including old analogue cameras — and let you replace them with HD models one at a time rather than all at once.

On top of the 16 coax channels it accepts 16 IP cameras as standard, expandable to 32, at up to 8MP, so a site can grow onto the network without replacing the recorder.

Two independent displays

HDMI 2 runs at 4K independently, while HDMI 1 and VGA mirror each other at 1080p. Two operators can watch different things from one recorder — a spot monitor at the counter and a full matrix in the office.

Two things worth knowing before you order

This is a K-series recorder, so it has no AcuSense. It will not filter alerts to people and vehicles. If that matters — and for most sites it does — the M-series AcuSense DVRs do it in the recorder, working with your existing cameras. Ask us and we will point you at the right one.

Some distributors list this model with RAID and hot-swap bays. Hikvision's own specification does not state either. We are not claiming them. If RAID matters to your installation, ask us to confirm with Hikvision before you order rather than discovering it afterwards.

What you'll need with it

• Hard drives — none are supplied. Four bays at up to 10TB. At 8MP the storage adds up quickly, so size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use surveillance-rated drives.
• 8MP-capable cameras. It will happily record your existing 1080p cameras, but the 8MP capability is wasted without cameras to match.
• 1.5U of rack space, or a shelf with airflow.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my existing coax cable?

Yes — that is the point of this recorder. HD-TVI runs over the same RG59 as older analogue systems, so in most cases you change the recorder and cameras and keep the cable.

Will it record my old analogue cameras?

Yes. Each channel self-adapts to CVBS as well as HD-TVI, AHD and CVI, so you can mix old and new and upgrade gradually.

Does it have AcuSense?

No. This is a K-series recorder. The M-series AcuSense models classify people and vehicles in the recorder and cut false alarms sharply — worth comparing before you decide.

Can I run two monitors showing different things?

Yes. HDMI 2 is independent at 4K; HDMI 1 and VGA mirror each other at 1080p.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Four SATA drives up to 10TB each, supplied separately.

What is the difference between HQHI, HUHI and HTHI?

They are resolution tiers: HQHI records up to 4MP, HUHI up to 5MP, and HTHI — this one — up to 8MP.
