The Hikvision iDS-6716HUHI-M is a 16-channel AcuSense video encoder — it brings sixteen analogue or HD-TVI cameras onto an IP network, so an existing coax system can be recorded and managed by an NVR or VMS alongside modern IP cameras.
If a site is moving from coax to IP but has cameras worth keeping — or cable runs that would be expensive to replace — this is the bridge. The cameras stay where they are; the encoder converts their video to network streams that any ONVIF recorder or management platform can use.
On a sixteen-camera legacy system that is far cheaper than replacing every camera, and it lets the migration happen in stages.
Motion Detection 2.0 is enabled by default on every analogue channel, classifying people and vehicles and filtering out the leaves, headlights and animals that cause most false alarms. It also supports up to 4 channels of line crossing and intrusion detection, and lets you search recordings by object or event type.
For a site with sixteen ageing cameras and an alert problem nobody trusts any more, that is a considerably cheaper fix than a new camera on every position.
Despite being sold as an encoder, it has two SATA bays at up to 10TB each — so it can record locally as well as stream to the network. Useful as a resilient second copy, or where the main recorder sits on a different site.
There is no HDMI or VGA output — only a CVBS spot output. This is an encoder, not a recorder you sit in front of: it is administered over the network and the video is viewed on your NVR or VMS. If you want a monitor plugged directly into the box, you want a DVR instead.
It converts analogue or HD-TVI camera signals into IP network streams, so coax cameras can be used by an IP recorder or management platform.
A DVR records the coax cameras itself and has a monitor output. An encoder is the right choice when you already have an NVR or VMS and want the old cameras to join that system rather than run a second recorder alongside it.
Yes — the classification runs in the encoder, so the cameras do not need replacing.
Only a CVBS spot monitor. There is no HDMI or VGA.
Sixteen on coax, plus up to twenty-four IP. For four, see the iDS-6704HUHI-M.
