Hikvision iDS-7216HQHI-M1/XT - 16 Channel AcuSense DVR

The Hikvision iDS-7216HQHI-M1/XT is a 16-channel AcuSense DVR, and it is where the M-series stops being an entry-level range: 4K display output, gigabit networking and 256 Mbps of bandwidth — more than two and a half times the 8-channel model.

The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras

Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the recorder, so your existing analogue cameras gain people and vehicle classification without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type rather than by time.

At this size the AI capacity is considerably larger than the smaller models: up to 8 channels of advanced perimeter protection, 4-channel face capture and 4-channel face picture comparison against up to 16 libraries.

The face library survives a disk failure

A detail worth knowing if you are using face comparison seriously: the face picture library is backed up to both the hard drive and internal flash, so a disk failure does not lose it. Rebuilding a face library by hand is a genuinely painful job, and most recorders at this price do not protect it.

Five signal types, and room to grow

Every BNC input self-adapts to HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS, so it records whatever is already installed, including old analogue cameras. On top of the sixteen coax channels it takes 8 IP cameras as standard, expandable to 24, at up to 6MP — so a site can grow well beyond its coax without a new recorder.

One thing to plan for

It has a single drive bay. Sixteen cameras on one disk limits how long you can keep footage — up to 12TB helps, but if you need months of retention rather than weeks, the 32-channel iDS-7232HQHI-M2/XT has two bays. Work out the retention you need before choosing.

What you'll need with it

• A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 12TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
• Camera power — it does not power cameras over the coax. Ask about the PoC (/PXT) models if you want that.

Frequently asked questions

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.

Can I connect a 4K monitor?

Yes — the HDMI output runs at 4K 30Hz, with VGA simultaneously at 1080p. The 8-channel model is limited to 1080p, so this is a real step up.

How many cameras in total?

Up to 40 — sixteen on coax plus up to twenty-four IP.

Does it come with a hard drive?

No. One SATA drive up to 12TB, supplied separately.

What does HQHI mean?

The resolution tier: HQHI records up to 3K / 5MP Lite, HUHI reaches full 5MP, and HTHI goes to 8MP.
