The Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT is a 16-channel 5MP AcuSense DVR with two drive bays — the sensible choice for a mid-size commercial site running coax cameras that needs both capacity and analytics.
The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras
Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the recorder and is enabled by default on every analogue channel, so existing cameras gain people and vehicle classification without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type rather than by time.
Analytics capacity here is the highest in the 16-channel range: up to 16 channels of advanced perimeter protection, 4-channel face capture and 4-channel face comparison against 16 libraries. The face library is backed up to both disk and internal flash, so a drive failure does not destroy it.
Two bays, and 8MP IP channels
Two SATA bays at up to 12TB each — 24TB total, which across sixteen cameras is the difference between weeks and months of retention.
It also takes 16 IP cameras as standard, expandable to 32, each up to 8MP — so a site moving gradually from coax to IP can run up to 48 cameras from one recorder without replacing it.

What you'll need with it
Frequently asked questions
Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?
Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.
How many cameras in total?
Up to 48 — sixteen on coax plus up to thirty-two IP at 8MP.
How does this differ from the HQHI 16-channel model?
Recording resolution and storage. The HQHI tops out at 3K / 5MP Lite on one drive bay; this handles full 5MP and 8MP input across two bays, with double the perimeter protection channels.
Does it come with hard drives?
No. Two SATA drives up to 12TB each, supplied separately.
