The Hikvision iDS-7232HQHI-M2/XT is a 32-channel AcuSense DVR with two drive bays — the largest coax recorder in the M-series HQHI range, and the one to choose when a site has outgrown a single-bay machine.

Two bays is the real reason to buy it

Every smaller model in this range has one drive. This has two, at up to 12TB each — 24TB total. Across 32 cameras that is the difference between a couple of weeks of footage and a couple of months. On a site where an incident might not be reported for a fortnight, that matters more than any other specification here.

The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras

Motion Detection 2.0 runs on the recorder, so existing analogue cameras gain people and vehicle classification without being replaced — separating people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals.

AI capacity scales with the channel count: up to 16 channels of advanced perimeter protection, 4-channel face capture and 4-channel face comparison against up to 16 libraries. As on the 16-channel model, the face library is backed up to both disk and internal flash, so a drive failure does not destroy it.

Up to 72 cameras in total

Thirty-two coax channels, plus 8 IP cameras as standard, expandable to 40, each up to 6MP. For a site mid-way through moving from coax to IP, that is a long runway on one recorder.

Worth checking before you specify

Playback is 16-channel, not 32. You can record all thirty-two but review sixteen at once — rarely a limitation in practice, but worth knowing if several people review footage together.

Total bandwidth is 256 Mbps across 32 cameras, roughly 8 Mbps each. Comfortable at these resolutions, but send us the camera list if you are running everything at maximum.

What you'll need with it

• Hard drives — none are supplied. Two bays at up to 12TB. Size them with our CCTV storage calculator and use surveillance-rated drives.
• Camera power — it does not power cameras over the coax.

Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?

Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.

How many cameras can it take in total?

Up to 72 — thirty-two on coax plus up to forty IP.

Why choose this over the 16-channel model?

Two drive bays and double the channels. If you have sixteen cameras but need long retention, this is still the better buy.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Two SATA drives up to 12TB each, supplied separately.

What does HQHI mean?

The resolution tier: HQHI records up to 3K / 5MP Lite, HUHI reaches full 5MP, and HTHI goes to 8MP.
