The Hikvision iDS-7204HTHI-M1/XT is a 4-channel 4K AcuSense DVR — and it is the model to choose if you actually want 8MP recording over coax, because it is the first tier that delivers it properly.
This is the tier where 8MP is real
Worth being precise, because the model numbers hide it. The HUHI models accept 8MP cameras but record full 8MP on channel 1 only, at 8 fps. This HTHI model records 8MP at 12 to 15 fps on every channel, with no per-channel restriction.
It also carries a 16 Mbps bitrate ceiling against 10 Mbps on the HUHI range — meaning it can actually allocate the data rate that 8MP footage needs, rather than compressing it harder to fit.
If you are putting 8MP cameras on coax, this is the tier that matches them. If your cameras are 5MP or below, the HUHI models will save you money.
The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras
People and vehicle classification runs on the recorder, so your existing analogue cameras gain it without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type. Up to 4 channels of perimeter protection and 2-channel face comparison against 16 libraries.

One thing to size carefully
Four 8MP cameras on one drive fills it fast. The bay takes up to 12TB, which helps, but 8MP at 16 Mbps is roughly four times the data of 1080p. Work out the retention you need before ordering the disk — we will do the arithmetic with you.
What you'll need with it
- A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 12TB. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
- 8MP coax cameras to make use of the tier — otherwise a HUHI model is the better buy.
- Camera power — it does not power cameras over the coax.
Frequently asked questions
Can it really record four 8MP cameras at once?
Yes — 8MP at 12 to 15 fps on all four channels. That is the difference between this and the HUHI models, which manage full 8MP on channel 1 only.
Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?
Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification.
Can I use my existing coax cable?
Yes. HD-TVI runs on the same RG59 as older analogue systems.
Does it come with a hard drive?
No. One SATA drive up to 12TB, supplied separately.
What does HTHI mean?
The resolution tier: HQHI records up to 3K / 5MP Lite, HUHI handles 5MP, and HTHI is the 8MP tier.
