The Hikvision iDS-7204HUHI-M1/XT is a 4-channel 5MP AcuSense DVR — a step up from the HQHI models in both recording resolution and analytics, while still running on existing coax cable.
The AI is in the recorder, not the cameras
People and vehicle classification runs on the recorder, so your existing analogue cameras gain it without being replaced. It separates people and vehicles from leaves, headlights, rain and animals, and lets you search recordings by object or event type rather than by time.
Analytics capacity here is double the equivalent HQHI model: up to 4 channels of perimeter protection and 2-channel face picture comparison against up to 16 libraries.
It accepts 8MP cameras — with one important catch
Despite being a 5MP-tier recorder, it takes 8MP HD-TVI and HDCVI cameras. But read this before you specify one:
Full 8MP recording at 8 fps is available on channel 1 only. Channels 2, 3 and 4 record 8MP Lite at 15 fps instead. So if you have one critical view — a gate, a till, an entrance — put that camera on channel 1 and it records at full resolution. The rest record at Lite.
This is buried in the datasheet and no competitor mentions it. It is not a fault; it is simply how the processing is allocated. But it changes which physical port you plug your most important camera into.

What you'll need with it
- A hard drive — none is supplied. One bay, up to 10TB. At 5MP and above the storage adds up quickly — size it with our CCTV storage calculator and use a surveillance-rated drive.
- Camera power — this model does not power cameras over the coax. The iDS-7204HUHI-M1/PXT does, if you want to run power and video on one cable.
Frequently asked questions
Will AcuSense work with my existing cameras?
Yes. The analysis happens in the recorder, so any analogue camera on a BNC channel gets people and vehicle classification with no camera upgrade.
Can I record four 8MP cameras at full resolution?
No. Channel 1 records 8MP at 8 fps; channels 2 to 4 record 8MP Lite. Put your most important camera on channel 1.
How does this differ from the HQHI model?
Recording resolution and analytics. HQHI tops out at 3K / 5MP Lite with 2-ch perimeter; this handles full 5MP and 8MP input, with 4-ch perimeter and 2-ch face comparison.
Does it come with a hard drive?
No. One SATA drive up to 10TB, supplied separately.
Can I connect a 4K monitor?
The HDMI output runs at 2K maximum. A 4K monitor will display, but at 2K.
