The Hikvision DS-9632NI-M16 is a 32-channel Ultra Series network video recorder in a 3U rack chassis, with sixteen hot-swap SATA bays, full RAID support and 320 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.
Choose this for retention, not for channel count
It records the same thirty-two channels as the DS-9632NI-M8, at the same bandwidth. What it adds is sixteen drive bays instead of eight — up to 16 TB per disk, so 256 TB raw.
That matters when retention is dictated to you rather than chosen. Licensing conditions, insurer requirements and some public-sector contracts specify how long footage must be kept, and on a 32-camera system at decent resolution, ninety days is a great deal of storage. This is the model that reaches those periods without a separate storage server.
The bays are hot-swap and the array supports RAID 5, 6 and 10, so a disk failure is a maintenance job rather than lost evidence.

What you'll need with it
- Hard drives — none are supplied. Sixteen bays at up to 16 TB each. RAID 5 costs one disk to parity, RAID 6 two. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator, and tell us the retention period you have to meet.
- PoE switches for the cameras — send us the models and we will size them.
- 3U of rack space and proper airflow. Sixteen drives generate significant heat and the unit is 150 mm tall.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the DS-9632NI-M8?
Same 32 channels and same bandwidth. Sixteen bays instead of eight, and a 3U chassis instead of 2U. Choose it purely for storage capacity.
What is the maximum storage?
Sixteen disks at 16 TB is 256 TB raw, less whatever RAID parity you allocate.
Can I change a failed disk without stopping recording?
Yes, the bays are hot-swap and the array rebuilds while the recorder runs.
Does it come with drives?
No. Sixteen SATA drives up to 16 TB each, supplied separately — surveillance-rated, not desktop.
Does it power cameras?
No. There is no PoE on this model; use switches.
