The Hikvision iDS-9664NXI-P16R is a 64-channel DeepinMind Pro network video recorder with four GPU engines, AcuSeek, sixteen SATA bays, full RAID and a redundant power supply. It is the most capable recorder Hikvision makes in this range.

The difference from the P8R is storage — nothing else

Identical analytics, identical channels, identical bandwidth. What changes is sixteen drive bays instead of eight, at up to 20 TB each — 320 TB raw, the largest capacity in the catalogue.

Buy it when the retention period is set for you rather than chosen: licensing conditions, insurer requirements, public-sector contracts. On 64 cameras also carrying face-match and ANPR data, those periods consume storage quickly.

Four GPU engines, and you choose what three of them do

Standard DeepinMind has two fixed engines. This has one dedicated to AcuSeek plus three configurable, each assignable to whichever job the site needs:

• Facial recognition — 8-ch video target capture at 4 MP, or 32-ch image comparison
• Perimeter protection — 12-ch video analysis at 2 MP, or 32-ch image analysis
• Video structuralisation — 8-ch structured analysis at 2 MP
• AcuSearch — 16-ch at 2 MP by the recorder itself

To use AcuSeek, at least one engine must be set to AcuSearch mode.

It works with ordinary IP cameras

Most AcuSeek recorders need AcuSense cameras with AcuSearch enabled, or the AI sits idle. This one manages AcuSearch and AcuSeek on up to 32 channels at 2 MP using standard IP cameras. With AcuSense cameras it goes further — all channels, 600,000 targets a day — but an existing camera estate is not wasted, which is unusual and worth knowing before you specify.

What you'll need with it

• Hard drives — none are supplied. Sixteen 3.5-inch bays at up to 20 TB. At this scale RAID 6 is usually right: a rebuild across sixteen large disks takes days, and RAID 6 survives a second failure during it. Size it with our CCTV storage calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from the iDS-9664NXI-P8R?

Only storage — sixteen bays against eight, so 320 TB against 160 TB. Same engines, same analytics, same redundant power supply.

What does the R mean?

Redundant power supply. Two PSUs, so a single failure does not stop the recorder.

Do I need AcuSense cameras?

Not necessarily. AcuSearch and AcuSeek run on up to 32 channels at 2 MP with ordinary IP cameras. AcuSense cameras unlock all channels and 600,000 targets a day.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. Sixteen 3.5-inch SATA drives up to 20 TB each, supplied separately.
