This is the black version of Hikvision's 8 MP active-deterrence turret. Electronically it is identical to the white model: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160, an F1.0 lens, AcuSense classification, two built-in microphones, a speaker, and a white strobe light that fires on an event. Only the housing finish differs.

When the camera classifies a person or a vehicle inside a rule you've drawn, it responds on site — strobe and audible warning — rather than simply recording a clip for someone to find later.

A black camera with a white strobe

Worth being clear on this, because the two things pull in opposite directions. The housing is black so the camera sits discreetly against a dark soffit or fascia. The strobe is still white light — that is the /SL designation, and it is unaffected by the body colour.

So this is the specification for a site that wants the hardware to disappear until something happens, and then to be unmistakable. If you want the camera itself to act as a visible deterrent at all times, the white version does that better. If you need a red-and-blue police-style strobe rather than white, that is the /SRB model, not this one.

Why this rather than the standard 2386G2H-IU

• Strobe and audible warning built in — no separate deterrent device, no extra cabling
• Two-way audio — two microphones plus a speaker rated 105 dB at 10 cm, so an operator can speak to site through iVMS-4200 or Hik-Connect
• Alarm and audio terminals — 1 audio in, 1 audio out, 1 alarm in, 1 alarm out (24 VDC/24 VAC, 1 A) for wiring in existing detectors or sounders

The cost of those features is power: this camera needs 802.3at at up to 18 W, where the plain -IU version runs on 802.3af at 8 W. Check the switch or NVR port budget before ordering.

Coverage and DORI

The 2.8 mm lens gives horizontal FOV 105°, vertical 56°, diagonal 130°, with depth of field from 3.3 m. Hikvision's published DORI figures are detect 89 m, observe 35 m, recognise 17 m, identify 8 m. For evidential facial detail the subject needs to be inside roughly 8 m.

The infrared reaches 30 m, so after dark the illuminator sets the working range rather than the optics.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black version any different to the white one?

Only the housing finish. Sensor, lens, analytics, strobe, audio and power draw are identical.

Is the strobe light black too?

No — the strobe is white light regardless of body colour. That is what /SL denotes.

Do the strobe and siren work without a recorder?

Yes. The camera's own event rules drive both, so it deters on a standalone install.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. The strobe and speaker push it past what an af port supplies — it needs 802.3at.
