Hikvision DS-7716NI-M4 - 16 Channel 4 Bay 8K NVR

The Hikvision DS-7716NI-M4 is a 16-channel Ultra Series network video recorder in a 19-inch 1.5U rack chassis, with four SATA bays, 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and support for cameras up to 32 MP.

Important — this model has no PoE ports

The plain M4 does not power cameras. It has two gigabit network ports and expects the cameras to be powered elsewhere, usually by a PoE switch. If you want the recorder to power the cameras directly, you need the DS-7716NI-M4/16P, which is the same recorder with sixteen PoE ports built in.

That choice is worth making deliberately rather than by accident. On a site that already has a managed switch — most commercial installs — the plain M4 is the cheaper and tidier option, and it keeps camera power under the network team's control. On a standalone system, the /16P saves you buying a switch.

Who is it for?

Larger installations that need storage rather than camera power: sixteen channels, four drive bays and an eSATA port for expansion. Four bays at 16 TB each is 64 TB before you touch external storage, which is what long retention across sixteen high-resolution cameras actually requires.

The alarm interface is the other reason to choose this over a smaller recorder — sixteen alarm inputs and nine outputs, plus two RS-485 ports and RS-232, so it integrates with intruder panels, barriers and access control rather than sitting on its own.

What you'll need with it

• A PoE switch or separate camera power — this recorder does not supply it. Tell us your camera count and models and we will size a switch.
• Hard drives — none are supplied. Four SATA bays, up to 16 TB each. Use surveillance-rated drives such as WD Purple; desktop drives are not built for continuous writing. Size them with our CCTV storage calculator.
• Rack space — this is a 1.5U 19-inch chassis, not a desktop box.

Frequently asked questions

Does it power my cameras?

No. The plain M4 has no PoE. You need either a PoE switch or the DS-7716NI-M4/16P version, which has sixteen PoE ports built in.

Does it come with hard drives?

No. It takes four SATA drives up to 16 TB each, supplied separately.

Can I run two monitors?

Yes. HDMI 2 runs independently, so you can show different views on two screens — useful where a reception desk and a manager's office both need a display.

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes, through Hik-Connect on iOS and Android, or iVMS-4200 on a PC. Both are free.

Is it RAID capable?

No. It takes four independent disks. If you need RAID, ask us about the DS-96000 series.
